  • Patent number: 6141088
Abstract: An apparatus and method for characterizing a modification of the state of condensation of liquid droplets on a target (10). The apparatus comprises a light transmitting means (20, 21) capable of directing a light beam (42) towards the target (10), a photodetector (48) capable of measuring the intensity of a beam (46) reflected/ transmitted from the target and of transmitting a measuring signal, a unit (50) for processing the measuring signal connected to the photodetector and capable of recording a function a(t) defined by ##EQU1## where I.sub.i is the intensity of the reflected/ transmitted beam measured without droplets being on the target, and capable of determining, from function a(t), a characteristic of the state of condensation of the droplets. Application in biological decontamination and meteorology.
