  • Publication number: 20230094179
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide for displaying notifications on a display of an autonomous vehicle 100. In one instance, a distance from the vehicle to a destination of the vehicle or a passenger may be determined. When the distance is between a first distance and a second distance, a first notification 650 may be displayed on the display. The second distance may be less than the first distance. When the distance is less than the second distance, a second notification 660 may be displayed on the display. The second notification provides additional information not provided by the first notification.

  • Publication number: 20230059417
Abstract: The technology relates to providing an enhanced user experience for riders in autonomous vehicles. Two or more displays may be arranged at different locations within a vehicle to provide notifications, alerts and control options. Information may be dynamically and automatically switched between these displays, as well as a rider's own personal communication device(s). What information to present on each screen can depend on factors including how many riders are in the vehicle, their seating within the vehicle, how their attention is focused and/or display location and size. Certain information may be mirrored or otherwise duplicated among multiple screens while other information can be presented asymmetrically on different screens. Presented information may include a “monologue” from the vehicle explaining why a driving action is taken or not taken, alerts about important conditions, buttons to control certain functionality of the vehicle, or other information that may be of interest to the rider.

  • Publication number: 20220390938
Abstract: A method for controlling an autonomous vehicle includes using one or more computing devices to transmit a request for a trip. The trip is from a pickup location to a destination location. The method also includes determining the autonomous vehicle for the trip is within a predetermined distance from the pickup location, providing a set of component controls to receive user input at a user interface after the determining. The set of component controls includes interactive controls for identifying or accessing the autonomous vehicle. A first user input is received at the user interface for one or more of the set of component controls, and control instructions for the autonomous vehicle based on the first user input are transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20220176997
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to enabling playing of content at an autonomous vehicle. For example, a request to transport a user on a trip may be received. The autonomous vehicle may be assigned to the trip. Whether the user has enabled a content feature may be determined. In response to determining that the user has enabled the content feature a request for a device identifier is sent to the autonomous vehicle. The device identifier generated at the autonomous vehicle is received. The received device identifier may be sent to a content-enabling computing system including one or more processors in order to enable the user to play content from the client computing device at the autonomous vehicle during the trip.

  • Publication number: 20220135085
Abstract: The technology employs a holistic approach to passenger pickups and other wayfinding situations. This includes identifying where passengers are relative to the vehicle and/or the pickup location. Information synthesis from different sensors, agent behavior prediction models, and real-time situational awareness are employed to identify the likelihood that the passenger to be picked up is at a given location at a particular point in time, with sufficient confidence. The system can provide adaptive navigation by helping passengers understand their distance and direction to the vehicle, for instance using various cues via an app on the person's device. Rider support tools may be provided, which enable a remote agent to interact with a customer via that person's device, such as using the camera on the device to provide wayfinding support to enable the person to find their vehicle. Ride support may also use sensor information from the vehicle when providing wayfinding support.

  • Publication number: 20220135077
Abstract: The disclosure relates to controlling a vehicle having an autonomous driving mode. An example method may include identifying a pullover location for the vehicle. As the vehicle approaches the pullover location, information identifying one or more road users may be received. A behavior prediction for each of the one or more road users may be received. One of one of the one or more road users may be identified based on the received behavior predictions for each of the one or more road users and a collision zone for the vehicle. After waiting for the identified one to pass the vehicle, the vehicle may be maneuvered in the autonomous driving mode into the pullover location.

  • Publication number: 20220120581
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to providing an end of trip sequence when a vehicle is nearing its destination. One or more computing devices may generate and display a video indicating a projected trajectory of the vehicle and objects detected by sensors on the vehicle, on a map corresponding to a route the vehicle is currently following, where the video is generated from a perspective of a virtual camera at a default position and default pitch A determination that the vehicle has reached a threshold relative to the route of the vehicle may be made and the position and pitch of the virtual camera may be adjusted to an updated position above the vehicle and a perspective which looks downwards towards a roof of the vehicle. The video may then be generated and displayed from the perspective of the virtual camera at the updated position.

  • Publication number: 20220041057
Abstract: Aspects of the technology relate to assisting a passenger in an autonomous vehicle without a driver. For instance, after a door of the vehicle is opened, a predetermined period of time may be waited by processors of computing devices of the vehicle. After waiting the predetermined period of time and when the vehicle's door remains open, a set of instructions for closing the vehicle's door may be played by the processors through a speaker of the vehicle. Once the door of the vehicle is closed, an announcement may be played by the processors through the speaker requesting that the passenger press a first button to initiate a ride to a destination. In response to the first button being pressed, the ride to the destination may be initiated by the processors by maneuvering the vehicle autonomously to the destination.

  • Publication number: 20210221393
Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to prioritizing notifications for a vehicle operating in an autonomous driving mode. As an example, a set of notifications based on one or more messages received or transmitted by a planning system of the vehicle may be generated. Each notification of the set of notifications is assigned a priority ranking. The set of notifications may be stored in a cache and the one or more processors may determine a first notification for display based on the priority rankings of the set of notifications and the first notification may be displayed on a display of the vehicle to a passenger of the vehicle.
