    Abstract: A protective safety cap assembly for the passageway of a medical device is provided. The safety cap assembly includes a cap that is guided for sliding and pivotable movement between a closed position where the proximal end of the medical device is easily accessed and a closed position where the proximal end of the medical device is sealed. The medical devices which can be protected by the cap assembly include hypodermic syringes, stopcock assemblies associated with I.V. lines and catheters, or the like. A medical worker holding the medical device in one hand can easily and repeatedly move the cap between the opened and closed position with a thumb or forefinger of the hand holding the medical device.
