In another embodiment, a high molecular weight copolymer made from one or more monoethylenically unsaturated C3 to C6 monocarboxylic acids and one or more monomers having a sulfonic acid group is added to the aqueous dishwashing system. Additionally, the present invention provides a machine dishwashing formulation comprising: a builder, which comprises not more than 2% by weight of one or more phosphate groups, based on the total weight of the dishwashing formulation; and the aforesaid terpolymer or copolymer.
