  • Publication number: 20240141128
Abstract: A nanovoided polymer-based material may include a bulk polymer material defining a plurality of nanovoids and an interfacial film disposed at an interface between each of the plurality of nanovoids and the bulk polymer material. The interfacial film may include one or more layers of material. A method of forming a nanovoided polymer-based material may include (1) forming a bulk polymer material defining a plurality of nanovoids and (2) forming an interfacial film at an interface between each of the plurality of nanovoids and the bulk polymer material. Various other methods, systems, and materials are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20240130239
Abstract: An actuator assembly includes a primary electrode, a secondary electrode overlapping at least a portion of the primary electrode, and an electroactive polymer layer disposed between the primary electrode and the secondary electrode, where the electroactive polymer layer includes a non-vertical (e.g., sloped) sidewall with respect to a major surface of at least one of the electrodes. The electroactive polymer layer may be characterized by a non-axisymmetric shape with respect to an axis that is oriented orthogonal to an electrode major surface.

  • Publication number: 20240109001
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for microfluidic fluid evaporation using femtosecond laser-patterned surfaces are disclosed. A microfluidic device may comprise a femtosecond laser-patterned substrate having at least one input path and at least one output path. The femtosecond laser-patterned substrate may comprise both superhydrophobic and superhydrophilic sections. Fluid deposited at an input path may be wicked to an output path due to the surface pattern. A heating device may be provided to heat the fluid to evaporate volatiles therefrom. Vacuums and gas streams may be used to aid in volatile removal. Gas streams may add gas to the microfluidic device to react with the fluid.

  • Publication number: 20230166253
Abstract: A microfluidic device having hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions and a method of manufacture thereof are provided. The microfluidic device may include one or more channels formed using a short-pulse laser that are configured for separation or mixing of fluids. The microfluidic device may further include hydrophilic or hydrophobic surfaces configured to aid in the separation or mixture of fluids. The short-pulse laser may be a femtosecond laser.

  • Publication number: 20230073211
Abstract: A process for forming polymer-grafted nanoparticles is provided. The process utilizes flow chemistry techniques to activate nanoparticle surfaces and then form polymer chains on the activated surfaces in a continuous process, thus avoiding the limitations and shortcomings of batch processes for forming polymer-grafted nanoparticles. The polymer-grafted nanoparticles are particularly useful as a filler or additive in fused deposition modeling (“FDM”) filaments, leading to printed parts having improved properties.

  • Patent number: 10232201
Abstract: A fall arrest apparatus comprises a rod (5) adapted at a first end region thereof to be attached to a structure (3), and an energy absorber (11) attached to a second end region of the rod. The energy absorber includes an attachment point (33) for further fall arrest means and an energy absorbing rip zone (41) which tears to absorb energy when subject to a force in excess of a threshold.

  • Patent number: 9771739
Abstract: A lock key comprising of (3) pieces. A head, a key blade and a snap lock. These pieces are interlocked together, so that separation is not possible in normal usage. The head is made of precious metal or non precious metal set with or without stones and may consist of various esthetic and ornamental forms. The snap lock engages the head and the key blade in a way to inhibit the removal of the head from the key blade in normal use. The key blade can be easily removed from the head and exchanged with another key blade as needed.

  • Publication number: 20060059756
Abstract: Pictorial labels for shoes are generated at the point of sale by photographing one or more of the shoes either with a Polaroid photograph or a digital camera to imprint the image of the purchased shoe onto a card. The card is then placed in a holder which hangs on, is clipped to, or is adhered to the end of the shoebox, containing the shoes which have been photographed. In the preferred embodiment the holder is clear plastic and includes a hanger which clips onto the edge of the shoebox with the photograph displayed through the transparent holder. Other embodiments include holders adhered to the shoebox by tape, open holders with side rails for retaining the photo within an open-sided pocket, and curved holders to provide compression clips retain the photo in the holder.
