  • Patent number: 4896805
Abstract: An improved carrying case for a small portable electronic device. The carrying case has a front panel, a back panel, two side panels and a bottom panel for defining a receptacle, open at its top, for closely receiving the device. A first flap at least partially covering the top of the device restrains the device inside the receptacle. A second flap having a fastener attaches the carrying case to an article of clothing of a user. The improvements of the case comprises a stiffener for the second flap and a protective flap for the fastener of the second flap.

  • Patent number: 4893351
Abstract: An apparatus for generating a remote alert signal in a communication receiver, the apparatus includes a remote alerting device, a latching receptacle enclosed within a casing of the receiver, and an electrical connector cable. The latching receptacle includes a socket accessible from outside the casing and a locking means comprised of a resilient means and an actuating means. The connector cable terminates at one end with the alerting device and at the other end with an electrical connector in the form of a mating plug having a groove extending around the periphery of the plug. The mating plug inserts into the socket and the resilient means being normally biased into the groove prevents disengagement of the mating plug. To release the plug, the actuating means forces the resilient means out of said groove to permit the mating plug to separate from the socket. The connector cable provides electrical communication between the receiver and the alert device.

  • Patent number: 4856088
Abstract: An electronic device having a display is disclosed which comprises contacts for electrically coupling the display to the circuitry of the electronic device, and a mounting arrangement for removable attachment of the display to the electronic device, such that the display may be removed from the electronic device to be read. The electronic device may be a radio transceiver, and the display may be adapted to display a paging message from a paging receiver associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 4838661
Abstract: A liquid crystal light emitting display (LCLED) device having two modes of operation. In the first mode the LCLED device produces dark symbols on a light background. In the second mode the LCLED device emits light producing light symbols on a dark background. The LCLED includes a LCD cell having an optically active nematic liquid crystal composition interposed between two parallel glass substrates. The glass substrates having transparent electrode indicia on the inner surfaces. Disposed on the outer surfaces of the glass substrates are polarizers having their axes of polarization orthogonal in the first mode, and their axes of polarization parallel in the second mode. A transparent panel having indicia identical to the electrode indicia is disposed on the exterior of one of the polarizers. The transparent panel is comprised of transparent material having fluorescent dye stuff. The transparent panel is optically connected to a light collecting means.

  • Patent number: 4802638
Abstract: A cord stowage device is provided which includes a spool having a channel through which a cable slidably passes from one side of the spool to the other side of the spool. First and second cup-shaped members are attached to respective ends of the spool. Each cup-shaped member includes a concave surface which faces toward the spool and the other cup-shaped member such that the first and second members grasp the cable as it enters the stowage device and as it exits the stowage device. The stowage device is positioned at the desired position on the cable by sliding the cable therethrough. When the stowage device reached the desired position on the cable, any excess slack cable in wound around the spool of the stowage device.
