The device comprises a base member, an arm which is pivotable about a vertical pivot axis relative to the base member, and a carrying element having a supporting surface for supporting an item of luggage. The arm is designed to move the carrying element away from the vertical pivot axis and toward the vertical pivot axis. The device further comprises moving means for moving the arm in vertical direction, resistance means which, in an operative state thereof, offer resistance against movement of the carrying element both in vertical direction and in horizontal direction relative to the base member, and operating means to be operated by a person, which operating means are provided with an operating element to be operated with a hand of said person for controlling at least the resistance means.

Abstract: A sorting device for sorting products, comprising successive carrier units each provided with a load carrying platform having a front arcuate edge and a rear arcuate edge. The sorting device further conveys the load carrying platforms along a conveying path and includes an elongated pusher element for each load carrying platform for pushing a product to be sorted sideways off, using at least one pusher element, at a desired sorting location. The pusher elements each extend above a load carrying platform and are designed for joint transport with the load carrying platform. The sorting device further comprises two elongated passages in the load carrying platform, and drive means at least partially provided under the load carrying platforms for moving a pusher element sideways between two opposite lateral positions at a desired sorting location.

The method and device detect the size and the identity of the packages, and control the transport of the packages by the supply unit and/or the transfer unit influenced by the detecting of the size of the packages. The spacing between packages delivered to the switch unit that are carried to the same discharge conveyor is smaller than the spacing between packages delivered to the switch unit that are carried to a second discharge conveyor.
