  • Patent number: 10594581
Abstract: A system includes first and second cache servers, a domain name server, and a route controller. The cache servers respond to an anycast address. The first and second cache servers respond to first and second unicast addresses respectively. The router controller determines if the first cache server is non-overloaded, overloaded, or offline. The route controller instructs the domain name server to provide the second unicast address when the status is overloaded or offline, and modifies routing of the anycast address to direct a content request sent to the anycast address to the second cache server when the status is offline. The domain name server receives a request from a requestor, and provides an anycast address to the requestor when the status of the first cache server is non-overloaded, and provides the second unicast address to the requestor when the status of the first cache server is offline or overloaded.

  • Publication number: 20180331925
Abstract: A system includes first and second cache servers a domain name server, and a route controller. The cache servers are each configured to respond to an anycast address. Additionally, the first cache server is configured to respond to a first unicast address, and the second cache server is configured to respond to a second unicast address. The router controller configured to determine wither the status of the first cache server is non-overloaded, overloaded, or offline. The route controller is further configured to instruct the domain name server to provide the second unicast address when the status is overloaded or offline, and modify routing of the anycast address to direct a content request sent to the anycast address to the second cache server when the status is offline. The domain name server is configured to receive a request from a requestor for a cache server address.

  • Publication number: 20170304711
Abstract: A variation of the casino game of blackjack which is played between players and without dealing a dealer's hand. Each player places an ante wager into a pot. Two cards are dealt to each player and the player with a hand closest to 21 without going over 21 wins the pot, minus any commission taken by the house. In another variation, a side wager can be offered on a standard game of blackjack (which uses a dealer's hand) which pays based on how many cards of a particular rank (e.g., ace) are present in a combined hand comprising both the player's and the dealer's hand.

  • Patent number: 9667516
Abstract: A system including first and second servers, a domain server, and a route controller is disclosed. The first and second servers are configured to respond to an anycast address and to first and second unicast addresses respectively. The route controller is configured to determine whether the first cache server is non-overloaded, overloaded, or offline, and may instruct the domain name server to provide to provide the second unicast address when the status is overloaded or offline. Routing of the anycast address may be modified so as to direct a content request sent to the anycast address to the second cache server when the status is offline. The domain name server may receive a request for a cache server address and provide the anycast address to the requestor when the status is non-overloaded, and provide the second unicast address when the status is offline or overloaded.

  • Patent number: 5416862
Abstract: The capacity of a multi-mode optical fiber system, such as a local area network, is increased by selectively propagating only higher-order modes through the multi-mode fiber. Because only a small number of higher-order modes are propagated, pulse spreading induced by modal dispersion is minimized, and the bandwidth of the multi-mode fiber is increased. Because of the reduced modal dispersion, higher-order modes are recovered from the multi-mode fiber in accordance with the invention without filtering the output of the fiber. This renders the system less vulnerable to mechanical perturbations that are known to reduce the bit error rate of systems requiring filtering. Thus, by propagating only higher-order modes in this manner, the "bandwidth-distance" product of the multi-mode fiber is significantly increased.

  • Patent number: 5311346
Abstract: The polarization-dependent distortion of an optical signal transmitted through an optical fiber is reduced by aligning the polarization of the optical signal to minimize the received signal distortion. A polarization controller (a device which can change the polarization of light in an optical fiber) may be located at either the input or output end of a long haul optical fiber system and is used to align the polarization of the signal to minimize the received signal distortion. Automatic operation of the polarization controller can be obtained by using a steepest-descent method based on a distortion measure of the received signal for the optical signal transmitted through the optical fiber to generate control signals which are used to control the polarization controller.

  • Patent number: 5175640
Abstract: A plurality of M receivers are utilized to receive a plurality of N channels from various incoming multiplexed data signals, N.gtoreq.M, where each incoming data signal arrives on a separate wavelength and comprises several channels. Each of the M receivers, in sequence, receives a separate one of the N channels, thereby M of the N channels. The process then repeats for the next M channels, in the same sequence as the first M channels. The repetitions continue until all N channels are received.

  • Patent number: 5093743
Abstract: An interconnect fabric is constructed from a plurality of fixed wavelength transmitters which are used to transmit arriving data packets through a star coupler, and a plurality of tunable receivers which tune to whatever frequency necessary to receive the desired data from the star coupler. A control network, constructed from a plurality of fixed wavelength receivers and a plurality of tunable transmitters, determines what frequencies the tunable receivers should tune to, and sends a signal to effectuate such tuning.
