  • Patent number: 6399692
Abstract: A tire tread composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a vulcanizable elastomer suitable for use in a tire; from about 1 to about 100 parts by weight of a silica reinforcing filler, per 100 parts of the elatomer; and from about 0.1 to 15 parts by weight of an electrically conductive additive containing a poly(alkylene oxide)-containing polymer having a alkali metal salt dissolved therein, per 100 parts of the elastomer provides improved electrical conductivity properties. A pneumatic tire having improved electrostatic dissipation employing the tire tread composition described above and a related method for dissipating electrostatic charges from tires using the tread composition is also discussed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 6, 1999
Date of Patent: June 4, 2002
    Assignee: Bridgestone Corporation
Inventors: Terrence E. Hogan, William L. Hergenrother, Mario DeTrano

  • Patent number: 4528331
Abstract: A conventional sealant composition having as its essential rubber components (1) at least one high molecular weight, hydrogenated polybutadiene polymer, and (2) at least one low molecular weight liquid elastomer, i.e., polybutene, as tackifying polymer, compatible to a high degree with said hydrogenated polymer; the resultant sealant composition reflecting a co-continuous phase morphology wherein said hydrogenated polymer provides a crosslinked network in said compatible low molecular weight liquid elastomer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 26, 1984
Date of Patent: July 9, 1985
Assignee: The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company

  • Patent number: 4228839
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a self-sealing pneumatic tire with puncture sealing properties and a method of manufacturing such a tire. The puncture sealant properties of the self-sealing tire are provided by a layer comprised of a blend of a crosslinked polymeric material and an irradiation degraded polymeric material.
