  • Patent number: 8588368
Abstract: Machine for intraoperative radiation therapy or IORT (Intra Operative Radio Therapy), comprising a body, a radiating head (23) connected to the body, and a shield for X rays. The shield comprises a mobile stand (29) supporting an absorbing mass (13), which is coupled, through connecting means (32), to means (33) for detecting the position of the absorbing mass (13), apt to give to a processor at least a signal indicating the position of the absorbing mass (13) with respect to the body of the machine. The processor determines, on the basis of the position and/or the orientation of the radiating head (23), the position of the absorbing mass (13) with respect to the electron beam axis.

  • Publication number: 20070287878
Abstract: A machine for intraoperative radiation therapy or IORT (Intra Operative Radio Therapy), includes a mobile body, having at least two driving wheels and at least an idle wheel, each driving wheel being operated by a corresponding moving engine, the machine including a radiating head connected to the body, for emitting an electron beam, handling elements which are integral with the radiating head, engine unit for moving the radiating head, for impressing to the radiating head at least a vertical translation motion. The handling elements include at least three bidirectional sensors, for measuring both a traction stress and a compression stress, each of which sends to a control processor an electric signal proportional to a measured stress which is orthogonal to the sensor. The control processor operates the moving engines of each driving wheel and the engine unit proportionally to the stresses measured by the at least three bidirectional sensors.

  • Publication number: 20050259786
Abstract: The invention concerns a machine for intraoperative radiation therapy or IORT (Intra Operative Radio Therapy), comprising a mobile body, provided with at least two driving wheels (21, 22) and at least an idle wheel (24, 25), each driving wheel (21, 22) being operated by a corresponding moving engine, the machine comprising a radiating head (23) connected to the body, apt to emit am electron beam, the machine being characterised in that it further comprise handling means (19) which are integral with the radiating head (23), engine means for moving the radiating head (23), apt to impress to the radiating head (23) at least a vertical translation motion, said handling means (19) comprising at least three bidirectional sensors (20), apt to measure both a traction stress and a compression stress, each one of which sends to a control processor an electric signal which is proportional to a measured stress which is orthogonal to the sensor, said control processor operating the moving engines of each of said at least

  • Patent number: 5635721
Abstract: An apparatus for the linear acceleration of electrons, particularly for intraoperative radiation therapy, including:an articulated structure for moving a radiating head that comprises an acceleration structure constituted by a plurality of cavities;a modulator for generating, controlling, and transmitting a radio-frequency to the cavities of the acceleration structure; andprocessing and control devices adapted to control the apparatus; the modulator is separate from the radiating head and the connection occurs by virtue of waveguide means adapted to carry the radio-frequency to the acceleration structure.
