  • Publication number: 20160265174
Abstract: A control system is disclosed for use with a cold planer having a milling drum. The control system may have an obstacle detection sensor mountable to the cold planer at a location forward of the milling drum. The obstacle detection sensor may be configured to generate a first signal indicative of an object detected within a work surface. The control system may also have a locating device mountable to the cold planer and configured to generate a second signal indicative of a location of the cold planer at a time of first signal generation, and a controller in communication with the obstacle detection sensor and the locating device. The cold planer may be configured to generate an electronic map of a work area based on the first and second signals, and to selectively adjust operation of the cold planer based on the electronic map.

  • Publication number: 20150367897
Abstract: A cab system with a cab, a roll over protection structure (ROPS), and a pair of actuators, is provided. The cab includes a ceiling portion, a base portion, and at least one collapsible column. The at least one collapsible column includes an upper arm connected to the ceiling portion and a lower arm connected to the base portion. The actuating cylinder actuates to maintain the cab between a first pre-determined height and a second pre-determined height, via slidable actuation of the upper arm. The ROPS includes a canopy to cover the cab, which is secured between a pair of telescopic support members. The telescopic support member includes a movable column with a canopy end attached to the canopy and a fixed column with a frame end connected to the frame. The actuator moves the movable column to adjust the canopy between a first pre-determined distance and a second pre-determined distance.

  • Patent number: 7172363
Abstract: A paving machine may include a power source, a traction system, a hopper configured to contain paving material, and one or more conveyors configured to transfer the paving material from the hopper. The paving machine may also include a screed configured to lay a mat of the paving material. The paving machine may further include at least one front sensor mounted on a front portion of the paving machine and configured to measure height from a surface to the front sensor and at least one rear sensor mounted on the paving machine and configured to measure height from a surface of the mat to the rear sensor. The paving machine may also include a controller configured to determine a thickness of the mat by determining a difference between one or more front height measurements taken by the at least one front sensor and one or more rear height measurements taken by the at least one rear sensor.

  • Patent number: 6152648
Abstract: A jump and return to grade function provides a means by activation of a switch to rapidly raise a milling machine to avoid an obstacle, then return the machine to the previous milling position. When the jump function is activated, the legs are extended at full speed, causing the machine to rise. In the return to grade function, the legs are retracted at controlled speeds until the previous milling depth is reached or the switch is released.
