Abstract: A process and molecular biomarker for platelets stored in blood banks provides for efficient verification of which platelet concentrate bags are in good condition for transfusion by measuring, by real-time polymerase chain reaction, expression levels of hsa-miR-127 and hsa-miR-320a microRNAs as the first process and biomarker predictor of platelet's cell aging during storage and the consequent presence of storage lesions as a quality test of these bags.

Abstract: A soap-dispensing faucet assembly for sinks includes a faucet that is configured to couple to a sink and a housing that is configured to couple to a surface below the sink. A nozzle, which is configured to spray water, is fluidically coupled to the faucet. A power module, a reservoir, and a pump are coupled to and positioned in the housing. The reservoir is configured to position fluids, such as liquid soap and liquid detergent. The pump is operationally coupled to the power module and is fluidically coupled to the reservoir. A tube is coupled to a front plate of the nozzle and extends from an opening in the front plate of the nozzle through the faucet. The tube is fluidically coupled to the pump. The pump is configured to motivate the fluids from the reservoir through the tube to be dispensed from the opening in the nozzle.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for a modular inverter system having a single device enclosure with a plurality of module receptacles capable of receiving one or more modules having tailored functionality. Such modules work in conjunction with each other to handle control of various power sources and power sinks in a mixed use power generation and consumption system. In various embodiments, these swappable modules include a charge controller module configured to control charging a battery, an inverter/charger module configured to convert an AC voltage to a DC voltage for charging the battery and configured to invert a DC voltage to an AC voltage for supplying AC power, a controller module configured to control the plurality of inverter/charger modules and the charge controller module; and a backplane disposed in the enclosure such that each module receptacle facilitates engaging a respective module with the backplane.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for deriving, for each member of a social network service, a metric representing the job-seeking propensity of the member. Additionally, techniques for classifying each member with a job-seeking status (e.g., active job-seeker, passive job-seeker, or non-job-seeker) are described. A score-generating algorithm will analyze a variety of input data—including member profile data, social graph data, and activity or behavior data—to derive a job-seeker score, representing the job-seeking propensity of a member.

Queries may be formulated regarding the inclusion of a particular feature in the nodes of the hierarchical data set (“does this node include this data feature?” and “what is the path of the data feature through the node set?”) Such queries may be evaluated by identifying a source node that includes the data feature, identifying candidate merge paths from the source node to the taget node, and determining whether the nodes of any candidate merge path include the data feature. The results may be presented to the user, e.g., as a visual layout of the portion of the hierarchical node set that includes the data feature or a timeline of nodes illustrating the path of the data feature over time.

Abstract: A deployment system is utilized to deploy an overboard pump over the side of an offshore rig or vessel. A reel of hose with an overboard pump is securable to an end of the reel of hose. A bend restrictor supports the hose as the hose bends downwardly for deployment in water. The bend restrictor is mounted for movement with respect to the reel whereby the bend restrictor is movable away from the reel, preferably along a fixed and predetermined path, to a deployment position to permit the overboard pump and the hose to be deployed into the water over the side of the offshore rig. The bend restrictor is also movable to a non-deployed position such that the hose guide is above the rig floor where the pump may be serviced.

Abstract: A servovalve has a sleeve having both a first metering aperture and a second metering aperture in fluid communication with a single port cavity defined by the servovalve. A spool oriented within the sleeve has a first land and a second land and defines a channel oriented between the first land and the second land. When the spool orients in a null position within the sleeve, the first land overlaps the first metering aperture and the second land overlaps the second metering aperture. As a low viscosity fluid within the servovalve assembly leaks across the first land and enters the channel, the overlap of the first and second lands with the first and second metering apertures minimizes flow of the fluid from the channel into the port cavity associated with the metering apertures. The configuration of the sleeve assembly, therefore, maintains a relatively large pressure gain within the servovalve assembly.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are compounds and methods for treating chronic neuropathic pain. It has been discovered that compounds that selectively interact with a muscarinic receptor subtype are effective in treating neuropathic pain. Specifically, compounds that selectively interact with the M1 muscarinic receptor subtype may be used.

Abstract: A simplified torque motor which includes a plurality of parts defining appropriate alignment slots and grooves as well as openings for properly positioning the parts with respect to each other so that after being secured by appropriate fasteners, the torque motor may function as a first stage for the control of fluid through an appropriate valve. The various parts include a base carrying an armature, upper and lower pole pieces, permanent magnets, electromagnetic coils and shims disposed between the base and the lower pole piece to adjust the air gap between the poles of the upper and lower pole pieces. The shims are provided with appropriate slits to receive a tool for easy removal of the shim for air gap adjustment purposes.

Abstract: A deflector jet servovalve including a fluidic amplifier constructed utilizing a plurality of laminae stacked one upon the other and bonded together to form an integral laminated structure. The fluidic amplifier includes a fixed ejector and a pair of receivers disposed opposed the ejector with a movable deflector disposed between the ejector and the receivers to deflect a jet stream emanating from the ejector. Conduit means is also defined in the integral laminated structure to supply fluid under pressure to the ejector and to receive any differential fluid output therefrom.
