  • Publication number: 20080274543
Abstract: The present invention provides methods of propagating transformed neurons in a simulated microgravity environment generated by a rotating wall vessel (“3-D culture”) so that the phenotype of the transformed neurons so cultured becomes closer to that of non-transformed neurons (primary neurons) and less like the phenotype of transformed neurons cultured via standard cell culture techniques (“2-D culture”).
    Type: Application
    Filed: May 1, 2008
    Publication date: November 6, 2008
Applicant: THE ADMINISTRATORS OF THE TULANE EDUCATIONAL FUND
Inventors: Mario T. Philipp, Cheryl A. Nickerson, Tereance A. Myers
  • Publication number: 20040067517
Abstract: A novel isolated surface antigen, which is expressed in vitro by spirochetes of Borrelia garinii strain IP90, is characterized by a relative molecular mass of 39.5 kDa and the ability to induce antibodies which kill spirochetes of the B. burgdorferi sensu lato strain IP90 by ADCK in vitro. Novel B. garinii cassette string protein or fragments thereof are also useful, as is the P39.5 protein in diagnosing Lyme disease and in compositions for treatment or prophylaxis thereof.

  • Patent number: 6475492
Abstract: A peptide consisting of an invariable 26-amino-acid-long region, named IR6, which is antigenically conversed among strains and species of the B. burgdorferi sensu lato complex, and immunodominant in both human and nonhuman primate hosts is described. This peptide is characterized by the sequence MKKDDQIAAAMVLRGMAKDGQFALKD (SEQ ID NO:1). This peptide is useful for rapid and specific diagnosis of Lyme disease, as are proteins containing this peptide and nucleic acid sequences encoding this peptide and these proteins.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 28, 1999
Date of Patent: November 5, 2002
Assignee: The Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund
Inventors: Mario T. Philipp, Fang Ting Liang
