    Abstract: The invention discloses a method of modifying the surface of a metallic hydride-forming material, through functionalization treating the surface of the metallic hydride-forming material with aminosilane to deposit self-assembled monolayers onto the surface. Thereafter at least one Platinum Group Metal is deposited onto the treated surface of the metallic hydride-forming material to allow chemical bonding to occur between the Platinum Group Metal(s) and the self-assembled monolayers.
