  • Patent number: 5439966
Abstract: A temperature- and/or polar fluid-sensitive device which comprises a mechanically strained semi-crystalline hydrophilic polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 7, 1993
Date of Patent: August 8, 1995
    Assignee: National Research Development Corporation
Inventors: Neil B. Graham, Marion E. McNeill
  • Patent number: 5342624
Abstract: Novel devices for the controlled release of active materials especially pharmaceutical are formed from at least two interpenetrating pieces. The male piece is water swellable and swells to disengage the female piece. The female piece is preferably formed from a thermoplastic, e.g. LDPE or from a soluble material such as gelatin which is rendered impermeable by an external coating of a hydrophobic material such as PVC. The devices find particular application as oral dosage forms for use in man.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 1993
Date of Patent: August 30, 1994
    Assignee: British Technology Group Ltd.
Inventors: Marion E. McNeill, Abdul Rashid, Howard N. E. Stevens
  • Patent number: 4973304
Abstract: A device for the sustained release of active substance comprises a wall defining a cavity for the reception of active substance, the wall being of impermeable material and having one or more ports therethrough. Sections of hydrogel material are within the cavity, the hydrogel, in use, being swollen to cover the ports in the cavity wall. Active ingredient is released from the container only through the hydrogel covering the ports. In this way sustained and controlled release of the active substance from the device is obtained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 1990
Date of Patent: November 27, 1990
    Assignee: National Research Development Corporation
Inventors: Neil B. Graham, Ernst R. Huehns, Marion E. McNeill
  • Patent number: 4814182
Abstract: A controlled release device which comprises:(i) a hydrogel; and incorporated therewith(ii) an active substance,at least part of at least one surface of the device comprising(iii) a layer which is impermeable to aqueous media.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 15, 1987
Date of Patent: March 21, 1989
    Assignee: National Research Development Corporation
Inventors: Neil B. Graham, Marion E. McNeill, David A. Wood
