  • Publication number: 20190308004
Abstract: This invention provides for a self-sealing port having a low profile and substantially flat bottom for use in hemodialysis. The self-sealing ports can be repeatedly used for the cannulation required for the blood flows associated with hemodialysis.

  • Patent number: 6261258
Abstract: A hemostatic device for sealing blood vessels, particularly for use in angioplasty comprises: (1) a barrel including: (a) a cylindrical portion; and (b) a terminal tapered portion, the terminal tapered portion being divided by at least one slot cut therein so that the tapered portion expands radially when force is applied to it; and (iii) an aperture at the narrow end of the terminal tapered portion; (b) a proteinaceous powder in the cylindrical portion of the barrel, the proteinaceous powder including at least one protein that promotes hemostasis in a blood vessel, the aperture in the terminal tapered portion being for flow of the proteinaceous powder; and (c) a plunger inserted into the barrel, the plunger including: (i) a narrow portion including therein means for guiding a guidewire; and (ii) a conical portion extending from the narrow portion so that, when the plunger is inserted into the barrel, the large end of the conical portion is located closest to the tapered portion of the barrel.

  • Patent number: 4692157
Abstract: A squeeze-actuated syringe includes a longitudinal body adapted to receive a collapsible ampul. A handle is attached by a hinge to one end of the body, the other end of which is adapted to receive a fitting on the ampul. The handle has a projection or pad on its underside in opposed relationship to the ampul received in the body. When the handle is squeezed toward the body, the ampul is compressed, discharging its contents through a hypodermic needle or the like attached to the fitting. A ratcheting lock mechanism on the handle and the body defines a plurality of selectable detented positions for the handle relative to the body. The handle can be stopped at any selected detented position, thereby allowing the contents of the ampul to be discharged in intermittent stages. In one embodiment, the ratcheting lock mechanism comprises a first serrated member on the body which is co-engageable with a second serrated member on the handle.

  • Patent number: 4581021
Abstract: A syringe for use with collapsible ampoules pre-filled with a liquid medicament includes a body that forms an open receptacle for the ampoule and a handle attached by a hinge to one end of the body so as to be in opposed relationship with the ampoule. The handle carries a compression pad on its underside, so that the handle can be squeezed toward the body to compress the ampoule. The body has a fitting at its proximal end for the attachment of a double-ended disposable needle. When the needle is attached to the fitting, the distal end of the needle passes through the fitting and punctures the ampoule, allowing the contents of the ampoule to flow into the needle as the ampoule is compressed. In one embodiment, the handle is hinged to the proximal end of the body; in a second embodiment, it is hinged to the distal end. In both embodiments, the pad is maintained in substantially parallel alignment with the longitudinal axis of the body.
