Publication number: 20220167920Abstract: A thermal neuromodulation apparatus, system, and methods for the ablative and non-ablative application of thermal energy to the renal nerves of a patient are disclosed. The thermal neuromodulation apparatus includes an elongated, hollow body configured to traverse the tortuous intravascular pathways of the renal vasculature and includes an expandable structure bearing electrodes and configured to selectively apply thermal energy via electric fields to the renal nerves through a vessel wall. The thermal neuromodulation apparatus may also include sensors and an imaging apparatus to obtain data from the treatment area before, during, and after neuromodulation to monitor and/or control the neuromodulation process.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2022Publication date: June 2, 2022Inventor: Marja Pauliina MARGOLIS

Publication number: 20220139561Abstract: Using a patient's physiological parameters ascertained using standard intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in combination with virtual histology (VH), these physiological parameters are evaluated to predict whether the patient's physiology has an increased risk of producing a Clinical Event or a Silent Clinical Event. In one embodiment the following three physiological parameters: the Plaque Burden; the Minimum Lumen Area; and whether a VH-TCFA or multiple VH-TCFAs are present are compared to target values and ranges. A concurrence of the values for the physiological parameters falling within the target ranges indicates that a patient's physiology has an increased risk of producing a Clinical Event or a Silent Clinical Event, respectively. In other embodiments, combinations of any two of the three physiological parameters listed above are compared to target values and ranges.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2010Publication date: May 5, 2022Applicant: VOLCANO CORPORATIONInventors: Marja Pauliina Margolis, Geoffrey Vince, Anuja Nair

Patent number: 9498183Abstract: Methods and devices are disclosed that, in various embodiments and permutations and combinations of inventions, diagnose and treat Pulmonary Embolism or associated symptoms. In one series of embodiments, the invention consists of methods and devices for identifying patients whose Pulmonary Embolism or associated symptoms are caused or exacerbated, at least in part, by blockages of one or more of the patient's internal pulmonary veins. In some instances, stenoses or other flow limiting structures or lesions in the patient's affected veins are identified. Further, in some instances the nature of such lesions and whether there is a significant disruption of blood pressure, or both, is ascertained. In some embodiments, methods and devices for applying one or more therapies to the blockages in the patient's pulmonary veins are provided.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2011Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Assignee: Volcano CorporationInventors: Joe E. Brown, Marja Pauliina Margolis, Mary L. Gaddis

Patent number: 9055921Abstract: A system and method are disclosed that facilitate generating visual representations of characterized tissue based upon ultrasound echo information obtained from a portion of an imaged body. The system includes a first filter having a first filter band that is applied to a near range portion of the ultrasound echo information to render near range filtered echo information. A second filter, having a second filter band that covers a frequency range of the first filter band, is applied to a far range portion of the ultrasound echo information to render far range filtered echo information. The system furthermore includes a set of characterization criteria that are applied to the near and far range filtered echo information. The characterized near and far range image data are thereafter combined into a single tissue-characterization image.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2013Date of Patent: June 16, 2015Assignee: Volcano CorporationInventors: Anuja Nair, David Geoffrey Vince, Marja Pauliina Margolis, Kendall Rand Waters
