    Abstract: The present invention relates to interference pigments comprising a layer of a zinc sulfide material. The pigments advantageously comprise a low-refractive-index core and at least one high-refractive-index layer comprising zinc sulfide. The invention also proposes a method for synthesizing these pigments by heterogeneous precipitation of zinc sulfide on a pulverulent support, the precipitation being obtained by titration of a sodium sulfide solution at a fixed pH, during the addition of a zinc saline solution in a reaction medium containing a dispersion of the pulverulent support, at moderate temperature. The invention also relates to cosmetic compositions comprising these interference pigments which are free of titanium dioxide, wherein the titanium dioxide is generally introduced as a filler or by providing a cosmetic ingredient containing it.
