Patent number: 5969663Abstract: A time domain communications system wherein a broadband of time-spaced signals, essentially monocycle-like signals, are derived from applying stepped-in-amplitude signals to a broadband antenna, in this case, a reverse bicone antenna. When received, the thus transmitted signals are multiplied by a D.C. replica of each transmitted signal, and thereafter, they are, successively, short time and long time integrated to achieve detection.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: Time Domain CorporationInventors: Larry W. Fullerton, Mark A. Barnes

Patent number: 5910960Abstract: A CMOS Reed-Solomon decoding circuit calculates syndromes, executes a Berlekamp algorithm, performs a Chien Search, and corrects a delayed version of the received data according to a calculated magnitude of error. The circuit is optimized in terms of chip territory and circuit complexity. Signals are provided to indicate uncorrectable packet errors and other transmission errors.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: June 8, 1999Assignee: Discovision AssociatesInventors: Anthony Peter J. Patent number: 5835792Abstract: An MPEG video decompression method and apparatus utilizing a plurality of stages interconnected by a two-wire interface arranged as a pipeline processing machine. Control tokens and DATA Tokens pass over the single two-wire interface for carrying both control and data in token format. A token decode circuit is positioned in certain of the stages for recognizing certain of the tokens as control tokens pertinent to that stage and for passing unrecognized control tokens along the pipeline. Reconfiguration processing circuits are positioned in selected stages and are responsive to a recognized control token for reconfiguring such stage to handle an identified DATA Token. A wide variety of unique supporting subsystem circuitry and processing techniques are disclosed for implementing the system, including memory addressing, transforming data using a common processing block, time synchronization, asynchronous swing buffering, storing of video information, a parallel Huffman decoder, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: November 10, 1998Assignee: Discovision AssociatesInventors: Adrian P. Wise, Kevin D. Dewar, Anthony Mark Jones, Martin William Sotheran, Colin Smith, Helen Rosemary Finch, Anthony Peter John Claydon, Donald William Patterson, Mark Barnes, Andrew Peter Kuligowski, William P. Patent number: 5829007Abstract: A RAM implementation of asynchronous swing buffering is provided in which two buffers are operated asynchronously; one is written while the other is read. Accordingly, this allows for a data stream having a fast rate of through-put to be resynchronized to another rate, while still maintaining a desired rate. In the invention, the write control and read control both have state indicators for communicating which buffer they are using and whether the controls are waiting for access or are, in fact, accessing that buffer.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 27, 1998Assignee: Discovision AssociatesInventors: Adrian P. Patent number: 5764696Abstract: Chiral and dual polarization techniques for an ultra-wide band communication system provide an ultra-wide band signal having signal components in two dimensions. The polarization techniques utilize two signal paths to excite a pair of linear, orthogonal antennas. The pulses transmitted along one signal path are delayed with respect to the pulses transmitted along the second signal path such that one antenna is excited with a pulse that is out of phase with respect to the pulse that is exciting the other antenna. With chiral polarization, one signal is delayed in time by an amount such that it reaches a maximum when the other signal is at an adjacent minimum. With dual polarization, one signal is delayed by more than a pulse width. Because the signal is split and transmitted using two orthogonal, linear antennas, the transmitted signal has an electric field component in two dimensions.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1995Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Time Domain CorporationInventors: Mark A. Patent number: 5717715Abstract: An integrated digital communication system utilizing multilevel vestigial sideband transmission is provided. The communication system receives a multi-level pulse-amplitude modulated digital signal from a limited bandwidth channel. The system includes processing stages which demodulate, sample and filter the incoming signal prior to recovery of the digital data. Other stages recover the timing and lock on to the frequency and phase of the transmitted signal, as well as provide for automatic gain control. An adaptive equalizer, error correction circuitry, and an output interface recover the digital data and provide for transfer to other devices.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: February 10, 1998Assignee: Discovision AssociatesInventors: Anthony Peter J.
