Mark A. BLACK has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 10497337
Abstract: An example of a virtual luminaire store allows a user to select an image or the like for a luminaire appearance and a set of performance parameters related to a virtual luminaire. Based on the user selection, a configuration information file is obtained and transmitted to a software configurable lighting device. The software configurable lighting device receives the transmitted file, stores the transmitted file and generates illumination in accordance with the configuration information from the file.

Inventors: Jack C. Rains, Jr., Mark A. Black, David P. Ramer, Rashmi Kumar Raj, Hampton Boone Maher
  • Patent number: 10349488
Abstract: The examples relate to various implementations of a software configurable lighting device, installed as a panel, that offers the capability to appear like and emulate a variety of different lighting devices. Emulation includes the appearance of the lighting device as installed in the wall or ceiling, possibly, both when lighting and when not lighting, as well as light output distribution, e.g. direction and/or beam shape.

  • Publication number: 20170059151
Abstract: A luminaire includes a display oriented for image output in a first direction and one or more lighting device components oriented for emission of illumination light, for use in a different second direction. The light source may output the illumination light in a second direction or illumination light from the source may be directed into the second direction (e.g. be a lens, reflector, etc.). The second direction of light output is different from the first direction. In one example, the configurable luminaire is a suspended light fixture with a display facing downward and a separate light emitter for indirect illumination emitted/directed upward. The elements that generate the illumination light may be separate from the display components or may support an additional functions, such as backlight generation, for operation of the display.

  • Publication number: 20170018215
Abstract: The examples relate to various implementations of a single software configurable lighting device, installed as a panel, that offers the capability to appear like and emulate a variety of different lighting devices. Emulation includes the appearance of the lighting device as installed in the wall or ceiling, possibly both when lighting and when not lighting, as well as light output distribution, e.g. direction and/or beam shape. Specific examples in this case combine a display device with a spatial light modulator or use angled light sources in each pixel, possibly with a settable beam shaper associated with one or more of the emission pixels.
