  • Patent number: 8187217
Abstract: A conduit is provided to provide a bypass around a blockage in the coronary artery. The conduit is adapted to be positioned in the myocardium or heart wall to provide a passage for blood to flow between a chamber of the heart such as the left ventricle and the coronary artery, distal to the blockage. The stent is self-expanding or uses a balloon to expand the stent in the heart wall. Various attachment means are provided to anchor the stent and prevent its migration. In one embodiment, a conduit is provided having a distal top which is more preferably a ball top, wire top, flare top or flip-down top. These top configurations anchor the shunt at one end in the coronary artery.

  • Publication number: 20020195163
Abstract: In a system and method for pumping liquid along a pipe, an impeller is mounted in a the pipe or a housing connected to the pipe. The impeller is driven by a turbine mounted outside the pipe or housing, wherein the turbine is preferably driven by air flow from a compressor. The invention finds use in the emptying the fuel left in the wetlines on a tanker truck, by providing a pipe that extends from the wetlines to the top of the housing tank of the tanker truck, and propelling the fuel using an impeller and turbine arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5603921
Abstract: A medicated dental floss and a method of preparation is presented for controlling the bacterial activity associated with gingivitis. The floss incorporates an antimicrobial agent which, as a result of the flossing action, is deposited to the interdental area of the teeth. The slow dissolution of the antimicrobial agent ensures that effective levels of medication are attained for sustained periods, thereby reducing bacterial activity.

  • Patent number: 4886502
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved peritoneal access system for providing repeated, long term access through the peritoneum, as for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The system includes a catheter tube extending through an implantable percutaneous access device (PAD) formed of a cylindrical neck and a buttonlike annular skirt. A portion of the catheter tube external to the PAD has a bellows integrally formed therein permitting the tube to be bent and moved without restricting fluid flow or stressing the PAD. The internal portion of the catheter tube has a sharp right angle below the PAD to tunnel the tube in a subcutaneous plane to the peritoneal penetration site and a position-adjustable collar for anchoring/sealing the cathether tube near the upper surface of the peritoneum.
