  • Patent number: 9361879
Abstract: In one aspect, a method for processing media includes accepting a query. One or more language patterns are identified that are similar to the query. A putative instance of the query is located in the media. The putative instance is associated with a corresponding location in the media. The media in a vicinity of the putative instance is compared to the identified language patterns and data characterizing the putative instance of the query is provided according to the comparing of the media to the language patterns, for example, as a score for the putative instance that is determined according to the comparing of the media to the language patterns.

  • Patent number: 8150044
Abstract: Methods for personalized listening which can be used with an earpiece are provided. A method includes capturing ambient sound from an Ambient Sound Microphone (ASM) of an earpiece partially or fully occluded in an ear canal, monitoring the ambient sound for a target sound, and adjusting by way of an Ear Canal Receiver (ECR) in the earpiece a delivery of audio to an ear canal based on a detected target sound. A volume of audio content can be adjusted upon the detection of a target sound, and an audible notification can be presented to provide a warning.

  • Patent number: 7179062
Abstract: An integrated, yet divisible shop vacuum and air compressor system is provided with a blower, a wet and dry vacuuming section and a compressor section, each of which is mounted on a easy to relocate trolley. The vacuum system has a separate motor from the compressor and is independently operable with full capacity. A filter in front of the vacuum suction prevents debris and moisture from entering the vacuum-generating unit. The vacuum hose decreases in diameter as a function of distance from the unit to increase airflow velocity. Air pressure within a compressed air storage tank in the compressor section is sensed and controlled. The integrated shop vacuum and air compressor system provides dry vacuuming, wet vacuuming, high pressure air delivery and air blowing capability from a single, mobile unit. The unit is fully integrated into a single, yet divisible platform which may come with or have available via after market purchase, a second set of wheels for total independence.

  • Publication number: 20040086001
Abstract: Using the 1st derivative ultra-narrow Gaussian monocycle pulse passed through a digital shaping multi-band FIR filter may generate a digital ultra-narrow shaped Gaussian monocycle pulse. The spectrum output of the shaped Gaussian monocycle pulse directly meets the FCC's mask restrictions of the emission limits for indoor UWB system. The digital system of generating shaping Gaussian monocycle pulse may be implemented in the off-line operation to save the processing power. The pulse generator in the UWB transceiver has flexibility and scalability of selecting only one shaped pulse out of the data memory banks in which allocate all of the shaped Gaussian monocycle pulses with the different center frequencies. With a shaped pulse generator, an UWB transceiver does not need either a digital shaping transmission filter or an analog shaping transmission filter, with coupling to a D/A converter before or after, during a real-time operation.

  • Patent number: 5274711
Abstract: An apparatus and method for modifying a speech waveform using sinusoidal speech model parameters, includes finding a net masked threshold for each sinusoid for a normal-hearing subject, and adding the effects of impairment and obtaining an impaired masked threshold. The method also includes finding gain needed for each sinusoid so that its distance above the impaired masked threshold is equal to the distance above normal masked threshold, and multiplying sinusoid amplitudes by the gain. The sinusoidal model is used to address the problem of spread of masking within internal speech components by determining the amount of masking that occurs between surrounding sinusoids. The masked threshold for each sinusoid is determined based on the additive effects of masking by other sinusoids in each frame.
