  • Publication number: 20160086091
Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein provides methods for testing decision-making ability by measuring a test subject's implicit disposition for bias. A series of sorting tasks can be generated for a user of a computer associated with a machine. At least two digital representations of association categories can be provided. A sequence of two or more trials can be executed. Each trial can provide a randomly-selected digital representation of a stimulus that can provide at least two digital representations of association categories; receive a selection by the user in response to the stimulus; and record a time between providing the randomly-selected digital representation of the stimulus and receiving the selection by the user. A score can be calculated reflecting the strength of the user's implicit association between one pair of relatedness and biasedness categories and a different pair. Related apparatus, systems, techniques, and articles are also described.

  • Publication number: 20150314771
Abstract: The invention provides a speed control system and method for a hybrid electric vehicle, the vehicle having an engine (121), an electric machine (123) and a mode switch (169), to allow switching between a first speed control mode (EV) and a second speed control mode (HEV). When the control system is in the first mode and at least one of a prescribed one or more conditions is met, e.g. a rate of acceleration demanded by the driver or a difference between a target vehicle speed and a current vehicle speed exceeds a respective prescribed threshold value, the system is operable to not limit operation of the vehicle to the EV mode.

  • Publication number: 20150314775
Abstract: The invention relates to a control system for a hybrid electric vehicle (100), the vehicle having a powertrain (135) comprising at least one electric propulsion motor (123) and at least one engine (121), the control system being operable to control the vehicle to operate in an electric vehicle (EV) mode in which the at least one engine remains switched off and the at least one electric propulsion motor is configured to deliver drive torque and a boost mode in which the at least one engine is switched on to provide additional power to drive the vehicle. When the vehicle is operating in EV mode the system is further operable to determine whether a boost location exists ahead of the vehicle being a location at which a gradient of a driving surface is sufficiently high to require selection of the boost mode, the control system being operable automatically to command starting of the at least one engine before the boost location is reached.

  • Publication number: 20150307099
Abstract: The invention relates to an adaptive cruise control (ACC) system for a host motor vehicle having regenerative braking means (122) and non-regenerative braking means. The system is operable to control a powertrain and the braking means of the host vehicle to maintain the vehicle at a target distance (d_target) behind the followed vehicle, the target distance being substantially equal to a second distance that is greater than a first distance (d_driver); and employ substantially only the regenerative braking means and not the non-regenerative braking means to slow the host vehicle when the host vehicle is greater than the first distance (d_driver) behind the followed vehicle and the ACC system determines that braking is required to maintain the vehicle at the target distance.

  • Patent number: 8863146
Abstract: A method comprising receiving data, where the data includes one or more elements, the data is associated with a first set of indices, and the first set of indices references the one or more elements. The method may further include folding a plurality of indices into a single index, where the single index references the one or more elements of the received data that were referenced by the plurality of indices, the folding generates a second set of indices, and the folding is performed when concurrent process threads are not generated based on the first set of indices. The method may further include determining whether concurrent process threads should be generated based on the second set of indices and generating the concurrent process threads for the second set of indices when the determining determines that the concurrent process threads should be generated based on the second set of indices.
