    Abstract: A gaze tracking system includes a contact lens, a photodetector element, a light conditioning element and electronics. The contact lens includes a fiducial having a position. The photodetector element receives a light signal from the fiducial and provides a photodetector output signal. The light signal provides a light intensity pattern at the photodetector. The optical conditioning element receives the light signal and provides a variation in the light intensity pattern on the photodetector in response to changes in the position of the fiducial. And the electronics process the photodetector output signal to calculate the position of the fiducial. A method includes detecting a light signal from a fiducial included in a contact lens, and tracking the contact lens by analyzing the light signal.

    Abstract: A method for controlling elevator cars of an elevator system according to one example of the present disclosure includes assigning free elevator cars of the elevator system to one of either general service or express priority service (EPS). A destination dispatch controller receives an express priority service (EPS) call. The EPS call can indicate a request for priority service from an EPS call originating location to an EPS call final destination. The controller can determine whether any active EPS assigned car can service the EPS call. A particular elevator car can be an active EPS car when the particular car is carrying out EPS service. When a specific active EPS car can service the EPS call, the controller assigns the specific EPS car to the EPS call. Upon completion of the EPS call, the controller unassigns the EPS car to a free car.

    Abstract: Sensing and communicating data from moving animals is described. In various embodiments a logging and communications device is attached to a wild animal such as a bird; the device senses environmental, physiological or behavioral data about the animal and communicates that data wirelessly to other devices (be they on other animals in the environment or at a scientist's base station). This enables scientists to obtain empirical data about animals in their natural environment without disturbing that environment unduly and with improved data retrieval. In various embodiments the device is physically small and lightweight whilst incorporating sensors such as global positioning systems, pressure sensor, light sensor or others and may be used solely to retrieve data or for both logging and communications.

Sweeping the beam bi-directionally in the vertical dimension (generally the dimension of the lower sweep rate) can reduce the scanning power by eliminating the flyback period, and, where the scan assembly includes a mechanical reflector, can reduce the error in the beam position without a feedback loop by reducing the number of harmonics in the vertical sweep function. Furthermore, because the image beam is “on” longer due to the elimination of the flyback period, the scanned image is often brighter for a given beam intensity. The scan assembly may also sweep the image beam non-linearly in the vertical dimension, and this sweep may be bi-directional or uni-directional. Sweeping the beam non-linearly can also reduce the error in the beam position by reducing the number of harmonics in the vertical sweep function.

    Abstract: A circuit for detecting a phase error between a clock signal and a beam position includes a beam generator, a sensor, and a phase detector. The beam generator directs a beam toward a beam sweeper in response to the clock signal, and the sensor detects the beam as directed from the beam sweeper. The phase detector determines from the detected beam the error in the clock phase relative to the beam position. Such a circuit can automatically detect the phase error in the pixel clock and correct this error, thus eliminating the need for a manual phase-error corrector. The circuit may also be able to adjust the width and/or the height of a scan region, and thus may also be able to adjust the width and/or height of an image frame within the scan region.
