  • Patent number: 8292247
Abstract: A cable anchor utilizes a spring assembly to reduce tensile stresses on a cable over a wide range of tensile forces. Some examples utilize a plurality of springs, with each spring sequentially acting to reduce tensile stresses on the cable as the tensile force increases. Other examples utilize a reel that permits movement of the cable through rotation of the reel to further reduce stress on the cable.

  • Publication number: 20080302280
Abstract: An exhauster fan bearing assembly for a pulverized solid fuel firing system includes a pedestal housing having an opening at a top portion, the pedestal housing defining an interior space with access thereto through the opening; a bearing housing disposed at the top portion of the pedestal housing, the bearing housing having first and second openings disposed at opposite ends of the bearing housing; first and second bearing assemblies disposed at the first and second openings, respectively; a shaft extending through the bearing housing via the first and second openings, the shaft rotatable about a shaft rotational axis via the first and second bearing assemblies; and a sump housing operably coupled to a bottom of the bearing housing. The sump housing extends through the opening and into the interior space of the pedestal housing. The sump housing defines a reservoir for a lubricant in fluid communication with the first and second bearing assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5952587
Abstract: A system senses real-time rolling element loads in a rolling element bearing having a plurality of rolling elements disposed between an inner race and an outer race. A plurality of sensors are disposed about one of the inner race and the outer race of the bearing to output sensor data corresponding to detected loads. A control unit predicts bearing life from the sensor data and determines a load zone of the bearing in real time from the sensor data. Before operation of the system in real-time, the sensors are calibrated to model a relationship of roller load and measured strain. The bearing is then rotated and sensor data is output from each the sensors. The sensor data is cyclical, and peaks and valleys are extracted from the sensor data to determine rolling element loads and measured bearing speed. Load components from a plurality of bearings are then summed to obtain total applied system load in real time.

  • Patent number: 5511846
Abstract: A carrier for a scuba tank having a nipple end and a bottom end and being of a specific size includes a porous bag open at one end and sized to be snugly fitted onto the scuba tank from over the bottom end of the scuba tank. A closure for the open end of the bag permits selective opening and closing of the open end, and a strap has a first portion sewn to the bag and in encircling relation to at least a portion of the bag and handle portion. The fabric bag can be snugly fitted onto the scuba tank from over the bottom end of the scuba tank, the open end of the bag can be closed by the closure and the combined scuba tank and bag may be conveniently carried using the strap handle portion as a handle, with the first portion of the strap providing support for the tank. The carrier has a woven nylon bottom to provide abrasion resistance and an upper portion as mesh fabric allowing the carrier to remain on the tank during a dive.
