  • Patent number: 7114028
Abstract: An invention is disclosed for automatically formatting removable media. A default media image is generated in computer memory in response to detecting unformatted media in a computer drive. The media image includes default file system structures for the media. In response to receiving a request to read the media, data is returned based on the default file system structures. However, the removable media is automatically prepared for content in response to receiving a request to write information to the media, wherein the default media image in memory is committed to the media.

  • Patent number: 6983292
Abstract: A software-driven method for the initialization and defect management of re-writable optical media is provided. Embodiments include a software-driven method for the formatting of re-writable optical media to include defining a file system and writing a UDF reader to the optical media to enable implementation on a plurality of optical media devices in a plurality of operating system environments. The re-writable optical media is initialized using either user data or initialization patterns in a background operation to allow user interaction with the optical media during initialization. Data integrity is managed over the life of the re-writable optical media through use of a write count table with entries corresponding to each packet written to the re-writable optical media and tallied to prompt packet verification upon a pre-determined number of user writes to the packet.

  • Publication number: 20050178093
Abstract: Although there are a number of aids for organizing a mechanics tool box, they are not versatile enough to work in many existing toolboxes. We propose ideas and methods not only to assist in organization of tools in toolboxes, but also a method of mounting new tools for sale that would allow using the packaging material itself in the organizing process. The exact mounting mechanisms and/or interconnecting mechanisms are not as important to this design as is the concept of individual mounting units that can be interconnected into a variety of patterns depending on the user's needs.

  • Patent number: 5588673
Abstract: A low profile membrane switch adapted for use over an automobile steering wheel airbag assembly for actuating a horn. The low profile membrane switch is comprised of an opposing pair of flexible electrodes separated by a dielectric layer. The dielectric layer has a unique pattern defining opposing electrode contact portions. A plurality of integral outwardly-extending protrusions are screen printed on the exterior surface of each flexible electrode, one over each of the opposing contact portions. These protrusions help concentrate an applied force to bring the respective electrode contact portions together to make electrical contact with the other. The opposing contact portions are defined by the dielectric pattern, and have a high density to insure redundancy and closure of the switch when one depresses the membrane switch with one's hand, and to insure the switch does not inadvertently close when flexed.

  • Patent number: 5517494
Abstract: A method of implementing a multicast routing protocol in routers is provided to manage the assignment of multicast transport addresses and to forward data from a single transmitting endpoint to multiple receiving endpoints. This method in conjunction with a method for implementing the multicast routing protocol as a transport protocol layer service for endpoints provides an internet wide multicast transport service. The multicast transport service provides the capability of transmitting data from a single source to multiple receivers on interconnected networks efficiently and without having to send duplicate copies of the data on any single network. Routers and endpoints transmit and receive multicast packets in a manner which is independent of the network layer datagram protocols used by the multicast transport service.
