  • Patent number: 5322997
Abstract: An optic fiber payout test system and apparatus is disclosed which is adad for simulating the payout of fiber at high speeds. This optic fiber payout test apparatus is comprised of a projectile, a source of fiber attached to the projectile, and a pneumatic propulsion system to propel the projectile and initiate the payout of the fiber. The fiber payout test apparatus further comprises a projectile track system as well as a braking system which allows the projectile to be used safely within a laboratory environment. The optic fiber payout test apparatus also provides a means for testing the payout of fiber optic cable in a manner that simulates the high rate of speed and high accelerations encountered during free flight. This capability is important for the development of launched fiber optic guided weapons systems and in particular, air launched optic guided weapons systems.

  • Patent number: 5209520
Abstract: An air bag restraint system includes an air bag module having an inflator with arming plunger which must be depressed to arm the inflator, the air bag module is mounted between a pair of side plates of a bracket assembly for pivotal movement between operative and inoperative positions, catch plates are provided for releasably securing the air bag module in its operative position, an arming mechanism having a pin mounted with respect to the arming plunger for transverse movement with respect thereto betweeen a disarmed and armed position, the pin being arranged to engage a contoured end face of the arming plunger to depress the arming plunger as it moves from its disarmed to its armed position, the pin being biased to its disarmed position and an anvil associated with the bracket assembly being provided for engagement of the pin to move it from its disarmed to its armed position as the air bag module is pivoted from its inoperative to its operative position.

  • Patent number: 4450136
Abstract: A substantially homogeneous calcium/aluminum alloy having a calcium/aluminum atomic ratio of from about 60/40 to 80/20 and with useful and unexpected properties of brittleness, passivity to atmospheric moisture and low volatility is prepared by a process which comprises adding aluminum under an inert atmosphere to molten calcium at a temperature of from about 550.degree. to 1100.degree. C. and at a rate to prevent substantial solids formation in the melt during the addition. The molten alloy is converted to particulate solid either by melt atomization or by casting, crushing and grinding. Lead/calcium/aluminum and tin/calcium/aluminum alloys are prepared by adding the calcium/aluminum alloy to the molten lead or tin, while calcium/aluminum/lithium alloy is prepared by adding lithium to the molten calcium/aluminum alloy.
