Publication number: 20230200949Abstract: An orthodontic self-ligating bracket for orthodontic treatment of maloccluded teeth. The bracket includes a bracket body, a bracket door, and a spring mechanism retained by the bracket door. The bracket body has a base on the bottom side of the bracket body that is contoured to attach to a surface of a tooth, a bracket slot on the top side of the bracket body extending in a mesiodistal direction and configured to releasably retain an archwire, and a bracket groove on the top side of the bracket body extending in an occlusogingival direction towards the bracket slot. The spring mechanism includes one or more springs that are configured to contact the bracket door and the bracket body. The bracket door can thus be retained by and slidably engage the bracket body between an open position and a closed position. One or more additional active spring members may also be provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2023Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Ortho Organizers, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Publication number: 20220361986Abstract: A method of assembling a distalizer is provided. An arm is provided including a mesial element at one end of the arm, and a ball member at another end of the arm. The mesial element has a first base for attachment to a canine or bicuspid. A distal element is also provided having a second base for attachment to a molar. To assemble the distalizer, the ball member of the arm is enclosed in the distal element without deformation of the distal element. For instance, the ball member is inserted into a first portion of the distal element, and a second portion of the distal element is joined together with the first portion to form a receptacle for the ball member. The ball member is thus enclosed in the distal element without reducing an opening of a receptacle in the distal element. Thus, improved distalizer assembly and operation may result.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 20, 2022Publication date: November 17, 2022Inventor: Mark A. Payne

Patent number: 11395720Abstract: An orthodontic self-ligating bracket for orthodontic treatment of maloccluded teeth is provided that includes a bracket body and a bracket door including a coplanar spring. The bracket body has a base that is contoured to attach to a surface of a tooth, a archwire slot on the top side of the bracket body extending in a mesiodistal direction and configured to releasably retain an archwire, and a bracket groove on the top side of the bracket body extending in an occlusogingival direction towards the archwire slot. The coplanar spring includes a spring body and one or more legs that deflect in direction generally coplanar with a plane of motion of the bracket door. The one or more legs interact with one or more depressions in the bracket body to move and retain the bracket door on the bracket body.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2019Date of Patent: July 26, 2022Assignee: Ortho Organizers, Inc.Inventors: Mark A. Publication number: 20220202534Abstract: Aspects of a distalizer and method of assembling a distalizer are provided. The distalizer comprises an arm including a mesial element at one end of the arm, a ball member at another end of the arm, and a distal element which encloses the ball member without deformation of the distal element. The mesial element has a first base for attachment to a canine or bicuspid, and the distal element has a second base for attachment to a molar. To assemble the distalizer, the arm with the mesial element and the ball member is provided, and the ball member is enclosed in the distal element without deformation of the distal element. Alternatively, the mesial and distal elements are additively manufactured simultaneously with the arm including the ball member, and the ball member is enclosed in the distal element without deformation of the distal element during the additive manufacturing.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2020Publication date: June 30, 2022Inventor: Mark A. Publication number: 20220192791Abstract: An elongated member is used to create tension to move teeth en masse to correct Class II and Class III malocclusions. The elongated member has a constant force spring that, when stretched, provides tension along the elongated member. A mesial end of the elongated member is attached to a bridge assembly which is attached to a row of teeth, and a distal end of the elongated member is attached to an anchor. The spring member provides a constant tension which moves the bridge assembly, and hence the row of teeth, a precalibrated distance.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2021Publication date: June 23, 2022Applicant: Ortho Organizers, Inc.Inventors: Nihir Patel, Tejdeep Singh Riat, Mark A. Patent number: 9622834Abstract: A method by which an orthodontic appliance is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient provides for the scanning of the mouth of a patient to produce a three-dimensional digitized model of the shapes of the patient's teeth and their positions in the patient's mouth. The appliance is automatically designed according to the final design, which also can be interactively modified and approved by the orthodontist, with the computer recalculating the effects on the treatment as a result of the doctor's changes. Brackets are fabricated as an integrated set, either by cutting slots therein or by building the brackets in layers. Three-dimensional custom jigs are automatically made to exactly position the brackets on a patient's teeth.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2011Date of Patent: April 18, 2017Assignee: Ormco CorporationInventors: Eric Chapoulaud, Craig A. Andreiko, Mark A. Payne

Patent number: 8992215Abstract: An orthodontic appliance is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient. A computer calculates the post-treatment positions of the teeth and produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, individually and in their calculated positions. The appliance is automatically designed according to the final design, which also can be interactively modified and approved by the orthodontist, with the computer recalculating the effects on the treatment as a result of the doctor's changes. Brackets are fabricated as an integrated set, either by cutting slots therein or by building the brackets in layers by, for example, stereo lithography. Three-dimensional custom jigs are automatically made to exactly position the brackets on a patient's teeth.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 2004Date of Patent: March 31, 2015Assignee: Ormco CorporationInventors: Eric Chapoulaud, Craig A. Patent number: 8690568Abstract: A system (10) and method by which an orthodontic appliance (25) is automatically designed and manufactured from digital lower jaw and tooth shape data of a patient provides for the scanning of the mouth of a patient (12), preferably from a model (20) of the patient's mouth, to produce a three-dimensional digitized model (26) of the shapes of the patient's teeth and their positions in the patient's mouth. Then a computer (30) calculates the post-treatment positions of the teeth and produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, individually and in their calculated positions.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2001Date of Patent: April 8, 2014Assignee: Ormco CorporationInventors: Eric Chapoulaud, Craig A. Patent number: 7959853Abstract: Stopper rod having an elongated body of refractory material, a passageway extending longitudinally in the body from an end thereof which is uppermost in use, a carrier rod having a part fixedly received in the passageway and a further part outside of the passageway for attachment to a lifting device for the stopper rod. The passageway has an enlarged part which defines a sealing surface spaced from the end of the body, an insert around the carrier rod having at least a part thereof received in the enlarged part, a retention element on the carrier rod, and an expandable element disposed between the insert and the retention element. The material of the insert has a co-efficient of thermal expansion no greater than that of the carrier rod. Expansion of the expandable element, in use, is greater than that of the carrier rod.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2006Date of Patent: June 14, 2011Assignee: Refractory Intellectual Property GmbH & Co.
