  • Patent number: 6972092
Abstract: A one-piece, molded plastic end cap (1) is designed for installation in a diesel engine fuel filter. The end cap (1) comprises a disk-shaped filter support component (2), with a top portion adhesively connected to the fuel filter center tube (8) and filter media (9), and a bottom portion which includes a downward-facing, slotted, cylindrical nipple (3). The distal end of the nipple (3) protrudes slightly from the bottom of the fuel filter housing (7), and is threaded to accept a drain plug/self-venting valve (10). The self-venting valve (10) is designed such that, the internal fuel filter vacuum is broken through a capillary-type action, and air subsequently enters the filter, and contaminants (primarily water) are able to drain freely.

  • Patent number: 6565746
Abstract: A self-venting drain valve is rotatably and slidably mounted to a filter assembly through an internally threaded base. The drain valve comprises a homogenously formed one-piece unitary valve body including a tubular valve stem portion and a valve knob portion. The valve stem portion includes a wall member defining an internal passageway provided with axially extending air vent openings through which ambient air can enter a filter housing through the internal passageway, and drain holes through which water is drained from the filter housing and the internal passageway. The air vent openings are formed through an upper portion of the wall member and are open to a top edge thereof, while the drain holes are formed through the lower portion of the wall member. The liquid drains from the filter housing through the internal passageway and the drain holes, then exits into the valve knob portion.

  • Patent number: 6401575
Abstract: A wrench cap of molded plastic defines an interior space into which project a plurality of lugs. The lugs engage ribs projecting from a threaded cover for a fuel filter housing. A conventional wrench or wrench handle cooperates with a hex coupling on the wrench cap to rotate the wrench cap and thus the threaded cover. This facilitates removal of the cover from the fuel filter housing so that a filter element in the housing can be changed.

  • Patent number: 6270660
Abstract: A flow inverter element is configured as an insert having both axial passages and radial passages, which passages are physically isolated from one another. The axial passages communicate with an annular chamber which opens to a series of inlet ports in the end plate of the housing while the radially extending passages communicate with a cylindrical chamber aligned with central output port in the end of the housing. The flow inverter is perferably molded of nitrile rubber and directly seals with a filter element, as well as with the end of a housing.

  • Patent number: 5817232
Abstract: A spin-on type filter assembly for lubricating oil includes a cast aluminum housing which contains a replaceable annular filter element. The filter element is resiliently retained in the housing by compressing a gasket thereon with a threaded end cap which closes one end of the housing. The housing includes a unitary front end wall with a plurality of inlet ports surrounding an axially positioned outlet port. In order to provide a secure coupling with the engine, an externally and internally threaded steel stud is threadably mounted in the outlet port for threadably coupling with the engine.

  • Patent number: 5606989
Abstract: A self-venting valve having its principal parts molded of nylon reinforced with glass fibers is mounted in the bottom of a fuel filter assembly to drain water and other contaminants from the assembly. The self-venting valve includes a plunger portion with a bore therethrough for draining water from the fuel filter assembly and a valve body member which receives the plunger. The valve body member has a vent hole therein which communicates with the interior of the housing to let air into the housing so that as the water drains from the housing a partial vacuum is not created which might interrupt the flow of water. The plunger is biased to the valve closed position by a coil spring, however the valve may be held in the open position by misaligning lugs on the plunger with slots in the valve body member.
