  • Patent number: 8689742
Abstract: A coolant flow control system (100, 200) includes an integrated coolant flow control and heat exchange device (10, 50). The device includes a valve body part (20, 60) and a heat exchange part (30, 70). According to the system, all the coolant flow from the engine is delivered back to the engine after passing through the valve body part (20, 60) and then the heat exchange part (30, 70) in which it passes over the heat exchanger part (40, 80). The valve body part (20, 60) by positioning of the coolant flow wall (26, 66) allows multiple flow modes and coolant paths to branch out (or converge) from (or to) thereby controlling the flow in all coolant circuit branches.

  • Patent number: 6295964
Abstract: A system for controlling a flow of pressurized oil in an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head having a first internal passage arranged to receive a supply of pressurized oil from the engine, wherein the first internal passage includes a flow restrictor; and a second internal passage connecting a section of the first internal passage upstream of the restrictor with a port formed in an external surface of the cylinder head to thereby define a pressurized oil outlet. The system further includes an oil flow control module including a pressurized oil inlet defined in a first surface thereof, and a spool valve operative to direct unrestricted oil flowing through the second passage within the cylinder head into one of a plurality of fluid lines operatively connected to the cam phaser unit, whereupon the spool valve is used to variably advance or retard engine cam timing.

  • Patent number: 6155229
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with charge stratification and directed air flow is provided. A charge motion control valve is positioned in the upper intake manifold and bifurcated intake ports are utilized in the cylinder head which direct the air flow into one intake port when desired. This provides improved engine performance, emissions, and fuel economy with easier packaging and consequently reduced cost.

  • Patent number: 6089203
Abstract: A reciprocating internal combustion engine uses intake valve seats which are offset from the intake port center lines such that charge motion of the inlet charge will be increased without the need for a charge motion control valve, and without causing a loss of volumetric efficiency of the engine.
