A retaining arm may be pivotally arranged relative to the longitudinal rail section. A telescoping rail may be configured to extend and retract relative to the longitudinal rail section. The bike carrier may include a hitch attachment member having a folding mechanism that is configured to tilt the bike carrier from an in-use position to a storage position. The bike carrier may be configured to support additional bike carriers in a generally scalable arrangement such that a plurality of bike carriers can extend from the hinge mechanism and tilt from the in-use position into the storage position.
