Patent number: 12017005Abstract: A respiratory mask system includes a headgear that, in use, secures the respiratory mask system to a patient's head. The headgear includes a pair of forehead straps that are coupled together by a forehead coupler to form a closed loop. The forehead coupler is removably connected to a frame of the respiratory mask such that the forehead straps remain in a closed loop. The pair of forehead straps can also be coupled together by positioning a male strap portion within an aperture of a female strap portion. The male strap portion has a free end that is configured to be received into the aperture. The male strap portion includes a plurality of notches that engage the aperture of the female strap portion and provide incremental adjustment. The free ends of the male and female strap portions have fasteners configured to engage the surface of the other strap portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2021Date of Patent: June 25, 2024Assignee: Fisher & Paykel Healthcare LimitedInventors: Melissa Catherine Bornholdt, Max Leon Betteridge, Gregory James Olsen, Mark Arvind McLaren, Bernard Tsz Lun Ip, Simon Mittermeier

Publication number: 20240108839Abstract: An interface for positive pressure respiratory therapy includes a mask assembly having a mask seal and a mask shell. The mask assembly is positioned lower than and exposes a bridge of the user's nose. The mask seal includes first and second portions on respective first and second sides of a nasal region that contact opposing sides of the user's nose. The first and second portions each include supports that help maintain a shape of the mask seal. A pair of covers can be supported relative to the mask assembly and adjacent a respective one of the first and second portions of the mask seal. The covers limit expansion of the first and second portions of the mask seal in response to pressurized air within the mask seal. The supports of the first and second portions can transfer load from the mask seal to the covers.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Fadi Karim Moh'd Mashal, Kirstin Elizabeth Middelkoop, Roheet Patel, Peter David Alexander Bearne, Mark Andrew Thompson, Amit Galgali, Michael John Henri Cox, Gregory James Olsen, Mark Arvind McLaren, Max Leon Betteridge, Bruno Sintive

Publication number: 20240075690Abstract: Welded headgear sections can be produced by using a weld tool having pins protruding from a weld region contact surface to deliver high-frequency electromagnetic energy to a weld region defined by overlapping top and bottom headgear straps. The pins fully penetrate the top strap and at least partially penetrate the bottom strap. The pins concentrate the electromagnetic energy to achieve a weld joint of acceptable weld strength and aesthetic appeal.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: March 7, 2024Inventors: Mark Arvind MCLAREN, Andrew James WEBB

Patent number: 11883591Abstract: An interface for positive pressure therapy includes a mask assembly, a headgear assembly and a connection port assembly. The mask assembly comprises a seal member that has an upper portion movably connected to an integrated lower portion, wherein the upper portion rolls during hinging movement of the upper portion relative to the lower portion. The headgear assembly allows connection to the mask assembly in a direction substantially normal to a direction of strap tension. The connection port assembly includes a swivel elbow with a valve member that controls flow through a port that opens toward the user.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2020Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: Fisher & Paykel Healthcare LimitedInventors: Gregory James Olsen, Peter David Alexander Bearne, Leon Edward Evans, Matthew Roger Stephenson, Craig Robert Prentice, Bernard Tsz Lun Ip, Tony William Spear, Mark Arvind McLaren, Roheet Patel, Brad Michael Howarth, Jonathan David Harwood

Publication number: 20240024606Abstract: A headgear for securing a mask to a user's face is described. The headgear requires a first load force to elongate the headgear and, when fitted to a user, applies a balanced fit force that substantially equals a load force applied to the headgear during respiratory therapy. In some embodiments, the headgear includes an elastic portion configured to provide a retraction force, a non-elastic portion configured to be inelastic in comparison to the elastic portion, and a restriction mechanism connected to the non-elastic portion and to the elastic portion. The restriction mechanism is configured to apply a first resistance force to the user's head on elongation of the headgear and a second resistance force to the user's head on retraction of the headgear.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2023Publication date: January 25, 2024Inventors: Mark Arvind McLaren, Jeroen Hammer, Vitaly Kapelevich, Brett John Huddart
