    Abstract: Narrowband subscriber terminals (40,52,58) of different narrowband networks are interconnected via a broadband network (48) that supports dissimilar signaling protocols to those maintained on the respective narrowband networks (40,52,58). A call server in a first narrowband network (40), in response to a call (100) from a first subscriber terminal (12) to a second subscriber terminal (68) in a second but different narrowband network (52), selects a phantom trunk (202) between the two networks. The phantom trunk has a unique circuit identity, which circuit identify is used in a first instance to relay to the second network an address of the second subscriber terminal (68). Then, in a second instance, the unique circuit identify is used to relay to the second network an address of the first subscriber terminal (68).

The data processing system includes an accessing module for accessing a geographic look-up table and an index for the geographic look-up table, the geographic look-up table and the index being stored in the database, an identification module for identifying, from the index, stored row identifiers associated with a subset of the mosaic of non-rectilinear shaped cells, and a retrieving module for retrieving, from the geographic look-up table, stored geographic identifiers associated with the identified stored row identifiers.

    Abstract: A telecommunications system incorporates a switch based private network having a transparent network signalling system and having a plurality of nodes interfacing each via a switch with an intelligent public network. The public network incorporates a service control point having associated therewith a database containing destination addresses corresponding to call numbers received from the private network. The database provides routing data for call independent signalling information in response to requests from a node on behalf of a private service provided to a user of that node and from a public network switch on behalf of a private service provided to a directly connected user of that switch.
