Patent number: 8714819Abstract: This invention is directed to an improved reclosable bag having first and second walls and an open top. The open top has first and second flexible fastener strips attached thereto. One of the strips has a profile portion forming a groove; the other strip has a profile portion forming a rib with a portion of the rib received and retained in the groove when the bag top is closed. Each of the fastener strips has a base connected to the respective walls. The bag has a slider mounted on the fastener strips which is movable longitudinally along the fastener strip to progressively separate the rib from the groove to open the bag, and is movable in the opposite direction to progressively return rib to a retained condition in the groove and create a leak-proof seal. A cradle is formed near one end of the fastener strip which is sized, constructed and arranged to receive and retain the base of the slider when the fastener strip is sealed to prevent leakage from that end of the fastener strip.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2007Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Global Packaging Solutions LimitedInventors: Jonathan Hui, Mark Branson

Patent number: 8256959Abstract: A fastener strip, such as would be used in a reclosable container, comprises a sealing member having a plurality of sealing portions configured to engage complementary sealing portions of a complementary fastener strip. At least one sealing portion comprises one or more finger members extending therefrom. The at least one finger member, by engaging a complementary sealing portion of a complementary fastener strip, provides an additional degree of sealing, particularly when the fastener strips are in a partially engaged condition. A slider comprises top and side walls and inwardly facing flanges, preferably at lower ends of the side walls. The inwardly facing flanges define a gap having dimensions such that the sealing members of the opposing fastener strips, and particularly the sealing portion having the at least one finger member and its complementary sealing portion, are urged together to provide an additional degree of sealing, yet not completely interlocking, engagement.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2006Date of Patent: September 4, 2012Assignee: Global Packaging Solutions LimitedInventors: Jonathan Hui, Mark Branson

Patent number: 8186526Abstract: A child resistant closure having an outer cap and an inner cap combined together. The caps are provided with complementary engaging ratcheting teeth making it possible to turn the caps as a unit in a closing direction but permits relative rotation of the caps upon rotation of the outer cap in an opening direction unless the outer cap is simultaneously deflected axially relative to the inner cap. Complementary load bearing surfaces are provided on the caps to prevent axial deflection when the caps are in a predetermined position and the caps resist rotation from this predetermined position.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2009Date of Patent: May 29, 2012Assignee: Rexam Healthcare Packaging Inc.Inventors: Mark Branson, Brian Brozell, Paul Zurawick

Patent number: 7973664Abstract: A closure comprising a top wall with an annular side wall depending there from. An induction foil is proximate an inner surface of the top wall and may have a ring or circular configuration. An RFID device is affixed or is integral with the closure a minimum distance from and/or orientation with the induction foil as to prevent damage to the RFID device during an induction sealing process and to reduce adverse operational effects of the RFID from the foil. The RFID may be active or passive and may be proximate or integral with the top wall or integral with the side wall of the closure. The RFID may be contained within a film wherein a portion of the film is inductively sealed to the closure.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2006Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: Rexam Healthcare Packaging Inc.Inventors: Phil Lambert, Mark Branson, William Shankland

Patent number: 7772981Abstract: A non-removable closure having a radio frequency identification, RFID, circuit integral therein. The RFID may be active or passive and may be integral with the top wall or side wall of the closure. The non-removable closure has a closure retainer which non-removeably engages a container neck at to which it is engaged. The closure retainer may be in the form of āJā hooks depending from the bottom portion of a side wall, an adhesive between the container neck and closure, or other closure retainer known to persons having ordinary skill in the art.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2006Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: Rexam Closures and Containers Inc.Inventors: Phil Lambert, Mark Branson
