Patent number: 8627622Abstract: A drywall-trimming strip for trimming an archway has a nose with a tabbed edge and a flanged edge. A first series of slits spaced from one another define a series of tabs spaced from one another along the tabbed edge. A flange extends from and along the flanged edge. The tabs are joined to the tabbed edge of the nose by a continuous juncture extending along and defining the tabbed edge of the nose, which has a second series of slits extending to the continuous juncture and spaced from one another, as the slits defining the tabs are spaced from one another. All parts of the drywall-trimming strip are made from a comparatively harder, less flexible, polymeric material, such as polyvinyl chloride having a hardness of Durometer Shore 82 D, except for the continuous juncture, which is made from a comparatively softer, more flexible material, such as polyvinyl chloride having a hardness of Durometer Shore 92 A.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2006Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: Trim-Tex, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M. Koenig, Jr., Mark Budzik

Patent number: 7788865Abstract: A drywall trimming element for bridging two sections of drywall is an extruded element having first and second opposing flanges each having an interior surface and an exterior surface. The element is secured to the drywall by joint compound. The interior surfaces are adapted to be positioned on or adjacent to a respective one of the drywall surfaces. The interior and exterior surfaces each define respective surface planes. One or both of the interior and exterior surfaces have a plurality of upstanding longitudinally oriented ribs extending outwardly from the surface. The ribs extend away from their respective surfaces and define a void space between the surface adjacent to the ribs and an end of the ribs, such that a line extending outwardly from and normal to the surface of the flange adjacent to the ribs traverses through the void space and then subsequently contacts the ribs. The void space serves to provide a joint compound locking feature for the trimming element.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2008Date of Patent: September 7, 2010Assignee: Trim-Tex, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M. Koenig, Jr., Mark Budzik

Patent number: 7730683Abstract: A corner defined where a wall panel and a ceiling panel meet is trimmed by a crown molding assembly comprising a wall platform, a ceiling platform, a crown molding member, a wall edge-trimming bead, and a ceiling edge-trimming bead. The wall platform is affixed to the wall panel, at or near the corner, and has an expansive surface spaced from the wall panel. The ceiling platform is affixed to the ceiling panel, at or near the corner, and has an expansive surface spaced from the ceiling panel. The crown molding member is affixed so as to bridge the expansive surfaces of the wall and ceiling platforms. The wall edge-trimming bead is affixed so as to cover an outer edge of expansive surface of the wall platform. The ceiling edge-trimming bead is affixed so as to cover an outer edge of expansive surface of the ceiling platform. Each platform may comprise a drywall layer or stacked drywall layers.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2005Date of Patent: June 8, 2010Assignee: Trim-Tex, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M. Koenig, Jr., Mark Budzik

Patent number: 7654049Abstract: As used to trim a corner where a wall and a ceiling meet, a crown molding member has a planar portion, an intermediate portion, and a mounting flange. The planar portion is attached to the ceiling, in a first mode, or to the wall, in a second mode. The intermediate portion may have a coved, stepped, or curved profile. When applied to the mounting flange, drywall-finishing material, so-called “mud” in trade parlance, is pressed through apertures in the mounting flange, against the wall, in the first mode, or against the ceiling, in the second mode.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2004Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: Trim-Tex, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M. Publication number: 20060059810Abstract: As made from a cellular polymer, a drywall-trimming accessory has two diverging flanges, each of which has two expansive surfaces facing oppositely. A superficial layer is removed from the same part of each expansive surface of each flange, as by milling, so as to reveal open cells of the cellular polymer. Where the superficial layer has been removed, a drywall-finishing compound contacting the same part of each expansive surface of each flange adheres well. As examples, which are not intended as limiting, the drywall-trimming accessory may be an elongate strip, which may be extruded from polyvinyl chloride, or a two-way or three-way corner, which may be molded, as by injection molding, from polystyrene or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2005Publication date: March 23, 2006Inventor: Mark Budzik

Publication number: 20050172571Abstract: When a molding member comprising a planar portion, an intermediate portion, and a mounting flange, is installed in a room having a ceiling and having walls, a sealant or a caulk is used for tacking the planar portion to a ceiling or wall surface of the room, along with an adhesive, mechanical fasteners, or both for mounting the mounting flange to a ceiling or wall surface of the room. The planar portion does not have to be otherwise attached to the ceiling or wall surface to which the planar portion is tacked. The mounting flange has apertures, through which drywall-finishing material is pressed against the ceiling or wall surface to which the mounting flange is mounted. The planar portion and the mounting flange have respective ceiling-facing or wall-facing surfaces, which may be coplanar, which may be parallel but not coplanar, or which may be oriented at a right angle relative to each other or at another angle relative to each other.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2005Publication date: August 11, 2005Inventors: Joseph Koenig, Mark Budzik

Patent number: 6691477Abstract: As extruded from a polymeric material, such as polyvinyl chloride, a drywall-trimming strip has a central portion, which has a bullnose region and two planar regions, one at each side of the bullnose portion. Further, the drywall-trimming strip has two lateral flanges, each of which is joined unitarily to the bullnose portion by a stepped junction. The bullnose region has an exterior radius of 0.350 inch approximately. Each planar region has a width of 0.217 inch approximately, as measured in a plane normal to an axis defined by the bullnose region. Each junction has a measurement of 0.095 approximately, as measured between a plane defined by the exterior surface of the bullnose portion and a plane defined by the interior surface of the flange at such junction. Having a thickness of 0.055 inch approximately, the strip is adapted to fit along an elongate corner defined by two drywall panels, each of which has a thickness not less than 0.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2003Date of Patent: February 17, 2004Assignee: Trim-Tex, Inc.Inventors: Joseph M.
