  • Publication number: 20100162015
Abstract: The instant invention broadly contemplates an energy saving subsystem comprising a secondary CPU that utilizes less power than a main CPU, thereby allowing an electronic device (e.g. a laptop PC) having the secondary CPU to use less power and run for longer periods of time on a limited power supply. Thus, the invention permits the electronic device to be utilized for extended periods and extends the battery life.

  • Publication number: 20100115338
Abstract: A method and system for localizing and resolving a fault in a cluster environment. The cluster is configured with at least one multi-homed node, and at least one gateway for each network interface. Heartbeat messages are sent between peer nodes and the gateway in predefined periodic intervals. In the event of loss of a heartbeat message by any node or gateway, an ICMP echo is issued to each node and gateway in the cluster for each network interface. If neither a node loss not a network loss is validated in response to the ICMP echo, an application level ping is issued to determine if the fault associated with the absence of the heartbeat message is a transient error condition or an application software fault.

  • Patent number: 7644499
Abstract: A protective sleeve cover is described for protecting anilox, gravure, or other costly rolls. The protective sleeve cover is cylindrical in geometry and has a means at one end for securing the cover to the roll being protected. The protective sleeve cover is readily mounted or demounted from the roll. Expansion tabs on the inner diameter of the protective sleeve cover create an interference fit with the roll being protected, causing the protective sleeve cover to deform and generate radial forces that enhance the gripping action of the protective sleeve cover to the roll. Friction pads can be added for enhanced gripping function with the roll.

  • Patent number: 7562206
Abstract: Microarchitecture policies and structures to predict execution clusters and facilitate inter-cluster communication are disclosed. In disclosed embodiments, sequentially ordered instructions are decoded into micro-operations. Execution of one set of micro-operations is predicted to involve execution resources to perform memory access operations and inter-cluster communication, but not to perform branching operations. Execution of a second set of micro-operations is predicted to involve execution resources to perform branching operations but not to perform memory access operations. The micro-operations are partitioned for execution in accordance with these predictions, the first set of micro-operations to a first cluster of execution resources and the second set of micro-operations to a second cluster of execution resources. The first and second sets of micro-operations are executed out of sequential order and are retired to represent their sequential instruction ordering.

  • Patent number: 7475225
Abstract: Microarchitecture policies and structures partition execution resource clusters. In disclosed microarchitecture embodiments, micro-operations representing a sequential instruction ordering are partitioned into a two sets. To one set of micro-operations execution resources are allocated from a cluster of execution resources that can perform memory access operations but not branching operations. To the other set of micro-operations execution resources are allocated from a cluster of execution resources that can perform branching operations but not memory access operations. The first and second sets of micro-operations may be executed out of sequential order but are retired to represent their sequential instruction ordering.

  • Publication number: 20070234917
Abstract: A dual use repeat builder assembly comprising a multiply inner sleeve with a bond layer surrounding its outer diameter for securing a compressible foam layer to the outer surface of the inner sleeve. A hard foam core is formed around the compressible foam layer using a mold cavity. After curing, the mold is removed and the ends of the hard foam core are machined creating cavity regions at each end. A notch insert is positioned at one or both of the cavity ends. A polymeric resin is poured into the cavities to form end caps. The outer surface of the hard foam and the end caps is machined to produce a smooth surface. An outer sleeve is mounted onto the hard foam core using compressed air with a resulting interference fit between the outer sleeve and the hard foam layer. Location of the end caps are such that holes can later be drilled through the wall thickness to convert the repeat builder to a bridge mandrel to enable mounting of thin sleeves to its outer surface.

  • Patent number: 7281068
Abstract: A disk management server (“DMS”), to manage a remote storage device; a wireless communication network; and a mobile computer create a system for secure remote booting of a mobile computer's operating system. To facilitate access to remote boot code, a multiple connection disk management server utilizes a trusted connection to negotiate communication security and an untrusted connection for transferring data once communication security has been established. The trusted connection is established through a physically securable interface, such as a wired network or line-of-site wireless network, e.g., infrared. Successful negotiation of communication security produces a security key that can be utilized to secure information exchange over the untrusted network. The untrusted connection may utilize any standard wireless communication protocol such as IEEE 802.11b.

  • Patent number: 7243219
Abstract: Systems and methods of processing branch instructions provide for a bimodal predictor and a plurality of global predictors. The bimodal predictor is coupled to a prediction selector, where the bimodal predictor generates a bimodal prediction for branch instructions. The plurality of global predictors is coupled to the prediction selector, where each global predictor generates a corresponding global prediction for a branch instruction using different history or stew lengths. The prediction selector selects branch predictions from the bimodal prediction and the global predictions in order to arbitrate between predictors. The arbitration, update, and allocation schemes are designed to choose the most accurate predictor for each branch. Lower level predictors are used as filters to increase effective predictor capacity. Allocate and update schemes minimize aliasing between predictors.
