Publication number: 20240408196Abstract: A method of extracting beta-glucan from autolyzed yeast material comprises a pre-wash step with water, an alkaline wash extraction step, a post-wash step with water, and if necessary, a drying step (e.g., spray-drying), with a dewatering and centrifugation between each step. The extraction improves efficiency by skipping the acidic and organic washes common to beta-glucan extraction. It has been discovered that beta glucan products yielded from this process have improved immunological properties, stimulating the expression of several immune-related genes in human macrophages without corresponding levels of stimulation for inflammatory pathways. The resulting beta glucan product can be administered as a supplement or adjuvant to existing anti-viral therapies.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 23, 2022Publication date: December 12, 2024Inventors: Frank Jordan, Mark Campbell, Kenneth Hunter, Sally Dupre

Publication number: 20230178206Abstract: A method and an apparatus for generating a brain break alert is provided. The method includes receiving electroencephalographic (EEG) data of a patient engaged in a cognitive activity at a system server from a user device. The EEG data is captured by electrode of an EEG headset, where the electrode is in physical contact with the patient, and the EEG headset is communicably coupled to the user device. Brain energy used (BEU) by the patient is determined based on the EEG data, brain energy available (BEA) to the patient is determined as a function of the BEU and a predefined initial brain energy (BEI) of the patient, where the BEA is proportional to a difference between the BEI and the BEU, and the BEA satisfying a brain break alert threshold is determined, upon which an instruction to generate a brain break alert (BBA) is sent to the user device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2021Publication date: June 8, 2023Inventors: Locillo PINO, Ashleigh KENNEDY, Matthew KENNEDY, Mark CAMPBELL, Marwan ELKHOLY, Matthew BAILEY, Chris EDWARDS, James HENDERSON
