  • Patent number: 8761809
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention may use a first accelerometer to measure first acceleration data of a first device. Other interaction data, including time data and geographic location data, generated by the first device may also be recorded. First acceleration data is compared by a remote server computer to second acceleration data generated by a second accelerometer in a second device. If the first and second accelerometer data are substantially equal, it can be determined that the devices have interacted and communications can be initiated. After communications are initiated, a financial transaction is conducted. Accelerometer data may be stored and/or used as part of the authentication process in a payment processing network. Other embodiments of the invention use the accelerometer to generate movement security data to make financial transaction more secure. Accelerometer data is used for authentication, security, encryption, session keys, non-repudiation, or fraud protection.

  • Publication number: 20140155707
Abstract: Implantable systems, and methods for use therewith, are provided for monitoring for an impending myocardial infarction. A signal indicative of changes in arterial blood volume is obtained. Such a signal can be a photoplethysmography signal or an impedance plethysmography signal. For each of a plurality of periods of time, a metric indicative of the areas under the curve of the signal or number of inflections in the signal is determined. An impending myocardial infarction is monitored for based on changes in the metric indicative of the area under the curve of the signal or number of inflections in the signal, and an alert and/or therapy is triggered in response to an impending myocardial infarction being predicted.

  • Publication number: 20140074600
Abstract: Offers from multiple entities provide an incentive for consumers to behave in a manner that is beneficial to the offer provider. Each offer is associated with rules that establish conditions that must be met for the offer to be valid. For example, a rule may be established to promote the use a specific form of payment, such as a particular credit card. Thus, the offer would only be valid if the consumer paid for the merchandise using the particular credit card. A merchant may generate its own offers or receive offers from a variety of sources (e.g., a payment processing organization, an issuer, or other external sources).
