  • Patent number: 7792885
Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing a shared RAM cache of a database, accessible by multiple processes. By sharing a single cache rather than local copies of the database, memory is saved and synchronization of data accessed by different processes is assured. Synchronization between the database and the shared cache is assured by using a unidirectional notification mechanism between the database and the shared cache. Client APIs within the processes search the data within the shared cache directly, rather than by making a request to a database server. Therefore server load is not affected by the number of requesting applications and data fetch time is not affected by Inter-Process Communication delay or by additional context switching. A new synchronization scheme allows multiple processes to be used in building and maintaining the cache, greatly reducing start up time.

  • Patent number: 7697558
Abstract: An emergency alert system for alerting DSL subscribers of imminent perils includes an alert server connected over a direct link to an edge node of a metro network for receiving an event notification, configuring from an event notification a highest priority alert message, and broadcasting the alert message to subscriber terminals over the metro network. An Add-Drop Multiplexer (ADM) multiplexes the alert traffic with the regular traffic onto the direct link, and the multiplexed traffic reaches the edge node of the metro network, which is configured with a high priority policy. The edge node discards the lower priority traffic in the presence of the alert traffic and an applet installed on the subscriber terminal accepts and displays the alert message in a browser or a media player.

  • Patent number: 7428299
Abstract: A method and a tool for provisioning media gateway resources in a network management context are presented. Circuit emulation entities are selected via the interaction with the tool in a combination of configuration and selection contexts. Further circuit emulation entity identification may be effected by using a combination of filter options. Once a list of identified circuit emulation entities is generated, a determination is made as to which entities are available. Connection control over all selected available circuit emulation entities is either relinquished or regained via a network management system by interacting with the tool. Relinquishing connection control for the selected circuit emulation entities includes, but is not limited to, configuring thereof for H.248 signaling, configuring port buffers, reserving resources at network nodes.
