Patent number: 9861470Abstract: An IOL inserter for delivering an intraocular lens (IOL) into the eye of a subject, has a handpiece with a generally tubular barrel, a nosepiece coupled to the distal end of the handpiece; and a plunger having a spiral groove. The plunger translates longitudinally within the barrel and passes through a piston with an O-ring that frictionally engages an inner surface of the barrel. The spiral groove interacts with a pin or tooth in the bore of the piston. The plunger may have a drive cap and a cover fixed on the proximal end of the drive cap. The distal end of the plunger may engage having an enlarged head that receives the distal end of the plunger. The distal end of the pushrod may have a bifurcated tip capable of contacting and urging an IOL from the inserter during the implant procedure.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2015Date of Patent: January 9, 2018Assignee: ABBOTT MEDICAL OPTICS INC.Inventors: Mark Cole, Rod Peterson, Nick Martin, Steven Anderson

Publication number: 20170156852Abstract: A cap configured and dimensioned to sweep or fold one or more haptics when removed from an insertion device. The cap may further have a pin, one or more snaps and/or one or more locks. The cap may also have one or more ports and/or one or more windows. An insertion system having a handpiece, a cartridge, and a cap configured and dimensioned to sweep or fold one or more haptics when the cap is removed from the insertion system. The cap is configured and dimensioned to couple with the distal end of the cartridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 21, 2016Publication date: June 8, 2017Inventors: Steven R. Anderson, Mark Cole

Publication number: 20170045357Abstract: A machine tool is provided with a toolsetting probe mounted on a bed or table, and a workpiece-sensing probe which can be mounted in a movable spindle. Both probes are calibrated by using them to make measurements against each other. The arbitrary length of the workpiece-sensing probe is used to calibrate the toolsetting probe, rather than using a pre-calibrated artefact of known length mounted in the spindle. A stylus disc of the toolsetting probe has a pre-calibrated size or dimension, and the workpiece-sensing probe is calibrated with respect to that. This obviates the need for skilful manual calibration procedures using pre-calibrated artefacts and manual measurement tools.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2015Publication date: February 16, 2017Applicant: RENISHAW PLCInventors: Stephen Edward LUMMES, Mark COLE

Patent number: 9470408Abstract: An illumination system may include a receiver which is mounted on a support surface, such as a heat sink, and a light module that may include a cover and an LED assembly. The LED assembly is rotateably attached to the cover and seats within the receiver. The receiver may have touch-safe terminals attached thereto for providing power to the LED assembly. The LED assembly may include a cup which enables potting material to be easily included in the assembly during manufacturing. When the LED assembly is attached to the receiver, blades on the LED assembly mate with the terminals on the receiver.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2012Date of Patent: October 18, 2016Assignee: Molex, LLCInventors: Daniel B. McGowan, Victor Zaderej, Mark A. Cole

Patent number: 9158178Abstract: A laser device is disclosed that provides at least an ultraviolet laser beam and preferably both an ultraviolet laser beam and a visible laser beam. The laser device includes a semiconductor laser device (e.g. a laser diode) to generate visible laser light which is coupled into a frequency doubling crystal taking the form of a single crystal thin film frequency-doubling waveguide structure. The single crystal thin film frequency-doubling waveguide converts a portion of the visible light emitted by the laser diode into ultraviolet light. Both visible and ultraviolet laser light is emitted from the waveguide. As an example, the single crystal thin film frequency-doubling frequency doubling waveguide includes a frequency doubling crystal region composed of ?-BaB2O4 (?-BBO), a cladding region composed of materials that are transparent or nearly transparent at the wavelength of the ultraviolet laser light beam and a supporting substrate composed of any material.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2014Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Sharp Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Tim Smeeton, Stewart Hooper, Edward Boardman, Robin Mark Cole

Patent number: 9017400Abstract: A system for easily transferring an intraocular lens (IOL) from a lens case to an inserter, and then into a patient's eye. The lens case has a transfer mechanism therein which retains the IOL until engagement with the inserter. The transfer mechanism may include jaws having a closed configuration for retaining the IOL and an open configuration for releasing the IOL. Engagement of the inserter with the lens case automatically opens the jaws and transfers the IOL to the inserter. The IOL is transferred into a load chamber of a nosepiece rotatably coupled to a handpiece. After transfer of the IOL, the nosepiece is rotated from a load position to a delivery position. The IOL may have an optic and a haptic coupled to the optic, and the lens case may be capable of configuring the haptic as desired to facilitate its transfer into an inserter and/or into the eye. For instance, the lens case may fold one or both of the haptics over the optic.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2013Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Abbott Medical Optics Inc.Inventors: Mark Cole, Rod Peterson, Nick Martin, Steven Anderson

Patent number: 8892185Abstract: Apparatus, systems, and methods are provided for localizing lesions within a patient's body, e.g., within a breast. The system may include one or more markers implantable within or around the target tissue region, and a probe for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic signals to detect the one or more markers. During use, the marker(s) are into a target tissue region, and the probe is placed against the patient's skin to detect and localize the marker(s). A tissue specimen, including the lesion and the marker(s), is then removed from the target tissue region based at least in part on the localization information from the probe.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2010Date of Patent: November 18, 2014Assignee: Cianna Medical, Inc.Inventors: Eduardo Chi Sing, Mark A. Cole, Tommy G. Nguyen
