  • Patent number: 8067935
Abstract: Multiple embodiments of mechanisms for sensing the opening and closing of pharmaceutical containers are disclosed. In particular, the example sensing mechanisms of the invention trigger an automatic, built-in, electronic dosage reminder and open/close event logging operation while requiring no additional actions or otherwise changed behavior by the patient, in order to increase patient compliance with dosing regimens. Furthermore, certain embodiments of the sensing mechanisms are reliable and sufficiently low cost to be practical for use in commercial product applications. In one embodiment, the sensing mechanism includes two electrical conductors that have no electrical connection therebetween when the closure is not present on the container and a bridge conductor in the closure that provides an electrical connection therebetween when the closure is tightened onto the container.

  • Publication number: 20020104848
Abstract: A container having signaling capability is disclosed for use with medicine and other pharmaceutical related products. The container preferably includes a conventional bottle-type body with a rotatably secured closure. A sensor means is structured to determine the position of the closure and thereby provide an indication of cap rotation indicative of the patient using the medicine. A processing means and display means are also included in the container to provide an indication of the current state of the container with respect to its contents. In addition, the container can include a button means to permit a user of the container to scroll through indicia shown on the display means. In another aspect of the container, a base station is provided for transmitting data to/from a signal means incorporated into the container. The base station includes a body having at least one receptacle for suitably receiving a container therein. A method of using the container is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5088015
Abstract: A portable fluorescent lamp fixture adapted for use with a plurality of fluorescent lamps includes an elongated center channel extending substantially the entire length of the fixture and disposed intermediate a pair of fluorescent lamps for providing a high strength, rugged structure. With a rubber end cap attached to each end of the center channel and a transparent protective tube comprised of polycarbonate or butyrate extending between the end caps and disposed about the center channel and fluorescent lamps, the lamp fixture is provided with a liquid-tight seal. The center channel includes an open lower portion along its length, having an inverted generally U-shaped cross-section, and is adapted to receive a removable snap-on cover along its entire length for enclosing lamp circuitry such as a ballast, a terminal block and wire leads. The removable cover facilitates access to lamp circuitry for maintenance.
