  • Patent number: 4391886
Abstract: Disclosed are novel methine colorant materials having the structure ##STR1## Also disclosed is the use of such materials in electrophoretic migration imaging layers and processes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 3, 1981
Date of Patent: July 5, 1983
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company
Inventors: Mark D. Frishberg, James J. Krutak, Sr.
  • Patent number: 4324899
Abstract: Disclosed are novel 2-amino-5-cyanothiazoles and the preparation thereof by a novel, two-step process. The cyanothiazoles have the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is selected from hydrogen; straight or branched alkyl of 1-20 carbons which may be substituted with 1-3 halogens; phenyl and phenyl substituted with 1-3 halogens, straight or branched alkyl of 1-20 carbons, straight or branched alkoxy of 1-20 carbons, cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl; 2-thiophene; and .alpha.-pyridine. These compounds are useful, for example, as the diazo moiety of azo dyes prepared through diazotization and coupling with compounds such as aniline type couplers. The process for their manufacture comprises reacting in substantially anhydrous formic acid at from about 50.degree. to about 110.degree. C., hydroxylamine, preferably the salts thereof such as [NH.sub.3 OH]Cl, [NH.sub.3 OH]HSO.sub.4, [NH.sub.3 OH].sub.2 SO.sub.4, and [NH.sub.3 OH]NO.sub.

  • Patent number: 4273926
Abstract: Disclosed are azo dyes having the general formula ##STR1## in which R is hydrogen, --NO.sub.2, --CN, halogen, alkoxy, alkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, or CF.sub.3, and A is the residue of an aniline, tetrahydroquinoline or benzomorpholine disperse dye coupling component. These dyes produce red to blue shades on polyester fibers and exhibit one or more improved properties such as dyeability, light fastness, pH stability, build, and the like on polyester, polyamide and cellulose ester fibers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 1980
Date of Patent: June 16, 1981
    Assignee: Eastman Kodak Company

  • Patent number: 4225719
Abstract: Process for the preparation of 5-formyl-2-aminothiazole hydrobromide and 2-amino-5-formylthiazole which comprises reacting bromomalonaldehyde and thiourea in the substantial absence of acid or base to form the 5-formyl-2-aminothiazole hydrobromide, and then treating the same with base to form the aminothiazole.

  • Patent number: 4180663
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a disperse methine dye containing at least one dicyanomethylidene group comprising the steps of(A) preparing an anhydrous solution of an aldehyde formed by contacting an aromatic amine, 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline or benzomorpholine compound capable of undergoing the Vilsmeier-Haack reaction with POCl.sub.3 and a N,N-di-alkylformamide wherein the alkyl moiety is 1-4 carbon atoms;(B) subsequently adding to said solution at least one equivalent of cyanoacetamide based on the equivalents of aldehyde formed in (A), thereby forming a reaction mixture of aldehyde and in situ generated malononitrile; and(C) adjusting the pH of the solution to a point sufficient for the condensation of the aldehyde and in situ generated malononitrile to occur thereby producing a disperse methine dye.
