Publication number: 20220029966Abstract: Connecting to an unsecured wired or wireless network poses severe security and privacy risks. An individual application such as a mobile online banking application address this by using point to point private network connections. Browsers, however, generally do not use point to point private network connections and depend on the target website to establish a secure connection. Providing a secure connection that is the default for all network access and that encrypts all over the air or over the wire traffic mitigates these risks. However, virtual client networks (VPNs) client applications can be difficult to set up and need to be always on to ensure that all network activity is secure. By embedding a VPN capability and automating the connection process, a safe and secure network connection can be made available to users of computing devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2021Publication date: January 27, 2022Applicant: ALLSTATE INSURANCE COMPANYInventors: Jason Park, John Parkinson, Mark D. Publication number: 20130278537Abstract: A touchscreen writing system includes a shaft having on-screen circuitry configured to communicate with an electronic display in an on-screen condition, and off-screen circuitry configured to communicate with the electronic display in an off-screen condition. A stylus controller sends signals to a touch-sensitive interface of the electronic display for determining a coarse approximate position for the writing nib. The stylus controller also determines relative fine approximate position coordinates for the writing nib, which are sent to the computing device. A touch-sensitive interface controller provides a starting reference point for fine positioning of the writing nib based on a last coarse approximate position as determined by the on-screen circuitry for the off-screen condition. The stylus controller sends fine positioning information to the touch-sensitive interface and a detector determines whether the writing nib has been engaged on an off-screen writing surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2012Publication date: October 24, 2013Applicant: Motorola Mobility, Inc.Inventors: Mark D. Patent number: 8208391Abstract: A method and apparatus for operation of a node within a mobile ad hoc cognitive radio network is provided. The method includes sensing at least one assigned communications channel. Sensing at least one assigned communications channel includes measuring a value of at least one parameter corresponding to the communications channel. The method further includes comparing the measured value of the at least one parameter with a set of stored values of the at least one parameter to determine a change in the measured values. Finally a sleep mode of the node is activated for a time period, wherein the time period is determined using the change in the measured values.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2007Date of Patent: June 26, 2012Assignee: Motorola Solutions, Inc.Inventors: David P. Gurney, Ramy S. Ayoub, John M. Belcea, Jeffrey D. Bonta, Mark R. Braun, Robert J. Corke, Mark D. Hansen, S. David Silk, Christopher G. Ware

Patent number: 7890090Abstract: A mobile communication device as described herein is configured to support a wireless service discovery routine within a wireless local area. The service discovery routine identifies compatible devices in the vicinity of the mobile device, where the compatible devices represent potential forward-to devices for purposes of call forwarding for the mobile device. The mobile device receives one or more potential forward-to telephone numbers during the service discovery routine, selects a designated forward-to telephone number, and generates a call forwarding request that identifies the designated forward-to telephone number. The service discovery routine is carried out using one wireless communication protocol, and the call forwarding request is carried out using a different wireless communication protocol (e.g., a cellular protocol).Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2006Date of Patent: February 15, 2011Assignee: Motorola Mobility, Inc.Inventors: Mark D. Hansen, Julien Pince

Publication number: 20110032145Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing gesture-based directed search using a portable electronic device is provided. The method includes receiving geographic location information of the portable electronic device. At least one signal associated with a motion of the portable electronic device is detected and directional information is determined based on the at least one detected signal and relative to the geographic location information of the portable electronic device. Further, the method includes performing a search for at least one point of interest based on the directional information and the geographic location information of the portable electronic device and rendering the at least one point of interest at the portable electronic device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2009Publication date: February 10, 2011Applicant: MOTOROLA, INC.Inventors: Mark D.
