Patent number: 10254114Abstract: A terrain sensor node system and method are provided herein. The terrain sensor node can be employed without hands on placement. Solar power is facilitated and contributes to service life and reliability. A robust housing is capable of aerial drop installation. A domed top and a rounded weighted bottom combine to form a housed sensor that is capable of righting itself after landing. A transparency in the upper housing enables the harnessing of solar power in a righted sensor. An antenna withstands aerial sensor deployment and rotates to a workable orientation without user intervention.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2017Date of Patent: April 9, 2019Assignee: Williams RDM, Inc.Inventor: Mark D Walters

Patent number: 6555201Abstract: An electromechanical device includes a first frame having a first aperture therein, a second frame suspended in the first frame wherein the second frame has a second aperture therein, and a plate suspended in the second aperture. A first pair of beams support the second frame along a first axis relative to the first frame so that the second frame rotates about the first axis. A second pair of beams supports the plate along a second axis relative to the second frame so that the plate rotates about the second axis relative to the frame. The first and second axes preferably intersect at a 90° angle. A first actuator provides mechanical force for rotating the second frame relative to the first frame about the first axis. A second actuator provides mechanical force for rotating the plate relative to the second frame about the second axis. Accordingly, the plate can be independently rotated relative to the first axis and the second axis. Related methods are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2000Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: MCNCInventors: Vijayakumar R. Dhuler, David A. Koester, Mark D. Walters, Karen W. Markus

Patent number: 6457874Abstract: A mixed media outlet is provided that is capable of being mounted upon a wall and that includes ports that are typically designed to provide separate access to an electrical network and to an optical network. The wall mounted outlet can therefore permit a telephone to be connected to the electrical network, and a computer to be connected to the optical network. Alternatively, the outlet can permit a telephone to also be connected to either the same or a different optical network than the computer. The mixed media outlet includes a housing adapted to be wall mounted and first and second ports that are disposed within openings defined by the housing, such as a data port and a voice port.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2000Date of Patent: October 1, 2002Assignee: Corning Cable Systems LLCInventors: Donnie R. Patent number: 6307997Abstract: Devices and methods by which fiber optic connectors, and the adapters associated with them can be installed upon mounting surfaces. A termination block is described that retains a number of adapters to receive fiber optic cable connectors for interconnection and/or cross-connection with other connectors or switching equipment. The termination block has a mounting footprint that is substantially identical to the mounting footprint of an electrical punch-down block, thus permitting ease of retrofitting. Slider panels are retained within bays in a base unit to secure adapters within the base unit. The slider panels are individually moveable so that each can be slidingly withdrawn from its bay for better access to the adapter secured therewithin. In preferred embodiments, removable markers are affixed to individual slider panels and a removable cover is provided for the termination block. Methods for mounting and retrofitting termination blocks are also described.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1999Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: Corning Cable Systems LLCInventors: Mark D. Publication number: 20010019002Abstract: A cable storage device has a reel rotatably mounted in a frame. The reel has a hub that rotates with the reel. A connector panel has a plurality of connectors for interconnecting with an end of the cable on the reel. The connector panel will fit on a reel docking station for rotation with the reel. The connector panel also fits on a frame docking station while the reel is not to be rotated. A locking member is engaged by the connector panel when the connector panel is mounted to the reel docking station to allow rotation of the reel. The locking member is biased to a locking position when the connector panel is removed from the reel docking station. A cable presence sensor locks the reel against rotation if substantially all of the cable is pulled from the reel.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2001Publication date: September 6, 2001Inventors: Mark D. Patent number: 5825962Abstract: An optical fiber splice housing is provided for connection to a distribution frame adjacent to the rear of an optical fiber raceway unit. The splice housing comprises a cabinet having a front end defining a cabinet height and a cabinet width and a rear end defining a rear facing opening. The front end of a cabinet is adapted for connection to a distribution frame adjacent the rear side of the raceway member, and the cabinet height is not greater than the raceway height while the cabinet width is not greater than the raceway width. The splice housing can therefore be connected to a distribution frame adjacent to the rear side of a raceway unit without using additional vertical space in the frame and access to a splice tray mounted on the splice tray shelf can be had through the rear facing opening of the cabinet.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: October 20, 1998Assignee: Siecor CorporationInventors: Mark D. Patent number: 5778130Abstract: An optical fiber connector housing or facilitating the cross-connection or interconnection of optical fibers is provided having upper and lower plate members spaced apart from one another with the front edge of the lower plate member extending further forward than the front edge of the upper plate member. A connecter panel depends generally vertically downward from the front edge of the upper plate member thereby defining a shelf portion at the forward part of the lower plate member. A door is hingeably connected to the front edge of the lower plate member thereby defining a forward cable area, at least one side aperture, and at least one top aperture forward of the connector panel.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: July 7, 1998Assignee: Siecor CorporationInventors: Mark D. Patent number: 5758002Abstract: A vertical routing and storage apparatus for optical fibers is provided comprising an upright member having front and rear vertical faces, a plurality of front channel assemblies adjustably mounted to the front vertical face, and a plurality of rear channel assemblies mounted to the rear vertical face. The upright member is adapted for connection to a supporting frame member and has a plurality of vertically oriented slots formed in the front vertical face. Each front channel assembly has a vertical position which is a adjustable through a range of vertical positions corresponding to the vertical extent of one of the vertical slots. Optical fibers can be routed vertically through the front and rear channels of the routing and storage apparatus and the vertical positions and spacing of the front channel assemblies can be adjusted to advantageously correspond to the vertical positions of optical fiber source equipment adjacent to the front of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1996Date of Patent: May 26, 1998Assignee: Siecor CorporationInventor: Mark D. Patent number: 5742982Abstract: A clamp assembly (10) is provided which can include first and second clamp halves (16, 18) with a base (50) mounted in each clamp path. The base has a cylindrical inner surface (54) which can clamp a cable thereto for strain relief. Alternatively, a flexible insert (86) having a plurality of cylindrical cavities (102) opening through the outer surface (100) thereof can receive a number of cables (12) to be clamped in the clamp assembly for strain relief. In another version, a plurality of nested inserts (106-116) can be provided on each base (50) allowing the selection of a particular insert dimension suitable the cable to be secured.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Siecor CorporationInventors: Joseph K.
