Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for browsing websites are provided. More specifically, a presentation browser application and method are provided that allows a user to browse content available from the World Wide Web using a display device and relatively limited user input device. The content is presented in a presentation skin selected from a number of available presentation skins. The presentation browser application is particularly useful for browsing the Internet with a television or the like.

Abstract: A cue message detection synchronizer that provides an out-of-band cue message to downstream content insertion devices. The cue message detection synchronizer receives a first data stream corresponding to a network feed, receives a second data stream corresponding to a provider feed, receives at least one cue message associated with the first data stream, compares the first data stream to the second data stream to determine a data stream offset, and generates cue message comprising one or more of: (i) the determined data stream offset, and (ii) a timestamp associated with the generated cue message and modified by the determined data stream offset. In this way, a location within a synchronized provider stream can be provided to downstream content insertion devices.

Abstract: A method of distributing content from multiple media content providers comprises combining the content into one or more composite data streams, and conveying the composite data streams to a plurality of receiver systems, each of which has a user interface that displays content provider information and allows for the selection of one of the providers for playing of the selected provider's media content. The media content is preferably provided to a computer server system via a data communications network. One or more composite data streams can be upconverted and uplinked to a satellite system for reception by satellite radio receivers. Intermediary service providers might also be used to receive the composite data streams, either via satellite or land-based communications lines, and format the data as needed for use by one or more associated end-user devices.

Abstract: A system for inserting secondary content into programmed primary content includes a first database storing a number of primary content, a second database storing a number of secondary content and a server in communication with the first and second databases. The server is programmed to receive primary content distribution requests and associate the primary content distribution requests with one of a plurality of programmed play lists. The server is also programmed to execute secondary content insertion instructions including secondary content selection instructions and frequency of secondary content distribution instructions to generate an integrated play list comprising the primary content associated with the programmed play list and the secondary content.

Upon selection of media data the server accesses the data from the database and transmits it to the user interface. The server also presents to the user interface a content history menu by which ancillary data associated with the content played by the system during the predetermined time is presented. The ancillary data may include the title of the content, the artist of the content, the availability of the content for purchase and its price, the title of one or more compilations, e.g., CDs, on which the content is contained and the availability of the compilations/CD for purchase and the price.

Abstract: A plurality of acquisition media is stored at each of a plurality of in-room systems. A plurality of access-only media is stored at a single head-end system. Each in-room system has access to each of the access-only media. Access to and acquisition of media are recorded at the head-end system and any associated charges for the access and/or acquisition are determined at the head-end system. A free check-out time prior to being charged for an acquisition of media and a free sample time prior to being charged for access to a media are provided. The acquisition media includes devices for storing audio data, such as CDs, DATs, mini discs and cassettes. The access-only media comprises audio data stored on a CD and/or an audio card have memory. The acquisition media may also include devices for storing audio/video data while the access-only media comprises audio/video data.

Abstract: Apparatus for use with a television receiver for selectively inhibiting reception of television broadcast signals. The apparatus includes a number of signal generating circuits, each respectively set to generate an electrical signal substantially equal to the carrier frequency of a corresponding television broadcast signal, and timer capable of being preset to activate and deactivate selected oscillators on a timed basis. The signal generating circuits are coupled to the antenna input leads of the television receiver so that when activated the electrical signals produced thereby cause sufficient interference with the corresponding incoming television broadcast signal to effectively block reception.
