  • Patent number: 7851522
Abstract: An aqueous adhesive composition includes a polymer adhesive material having a pH of less than 7, a cationic thickener or an anionic thickener formed from at least one anionic monomer having a pKa of less than 3, and water. The adhesive composition has a stringing length of 9 cm or less and a sag distance of 10 mm or less.

Date of Patent: December 14, 2010
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Cordell M. Hardy, Mark E. Fagan, Scott D. Pearson, Kurt C. Melancon, Matthew T. Scholz
  • Patent number: 7560507
Abstract: A method is disclosed. The method comprises combining at least a polymer adhesive material, a thickener, and water to form adhesive compositions having a pH of 4 to 10, and identifying the adhesive compositions having a stringing length of 9 cm or less and one or more of the following properties: a set time of 180 seconds or less, a phase lag of 45 degrees or less, a viscosity of 3,000 to 50,000 cP, a complex shear modulus of 50 to 1000 Pa, and a sag distance of 10 mm or less.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 29, 2007
Date of Patent: July 14, 2009
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Kurt C. Melancon, Mark E. Fagan, Scott D. Pearson, William J. Hunt
  • Patent number: 7348378
Abstract: An adhesive composition includes a polymer adhesive material and a thickener. The adhesive composition has a stringing length of 9 cm or less and a phase lag of 45 degrees or less or a sag distance of 5 mm or less. The adhesive can be formed by combining a vinyl acetate polymer, an alkali swellable thickener, an alkali material, and water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 2004
Date of Patent: March 25, 2008
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Kurt C. Melancon, Mark E. Fagan, Scott D. Pearson, William J. Hunt
  • Patent number: 6763556
Abstract: The invention is a mating film. The mating film comprises a base sheet having a first major surface. A plurality of generally parallel ridges project from the first major surface. The ridges comprise a stem portion attached to the base sheet and generally upright from the base sheet. A head portion of each ridge is spaced from the first major surface and extends generally laterally from the stem portion so as to define a lateral distance. The center of each stem portion of each ridge is spaced from the center of each adjacent ridge stem portion by a distance greater than about 2 times lateral distance defined by the head portion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 2002
Date of Patent: July 20, 2004
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: Mark E. Fagan, Robert K. Galkiewicz, Scott D. Pearson, Brian E. Spiewak
  • Publication number: 20030098906
Abstract: The invention provides a method for imparting an image to a substrate that includes imparting an image to an image transfer sheet having an image receptive layer releasably attached to a carrier sheet, wherein the imaged side of the image transfer sheet is the side containing the image, and the non-imaged side is the opposite side, contacting the imaged side of the image transfer sheet with the substrate, applying localized pressure to the non-imaged side of the image transfer sheet, and removing the carrier sheet wherein removal of the carrier sheet imparts the portion of the imaged image receptive layer, in a discontinuous fashion, where localized pressure was applied to the non-imaged side of the image transfer sheet.
