  • Patent number: 8809625
Abstract: Methods and compositions are provided which employ a silencing element that, when ingested by a pest, such as a pest from the Lygus genus, is capable of decreasing the expression of a target sequence in the pest. In specific embodiments, the decrease in expression of the target sequence controls the pest and thereby the methods and compositions are capable of limiting damage to a plant. The present invention provides various target polynucleotides from specific polypeptide families as disclosed herein, or active variants thereof, wherein a decrease in expression of one or more the sequences in the target pest controls the pest. Further provided are silencing elements which when ingested by the pest decrease the level of the target polypeptide and thereby control the pest. Plants, plant parts, bacteria and other host cells comprising the silencing elements or an active variant or fragment thereof of the invention are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8003827
Abstract: A method for producing phenol and acetone in a multi-stage process at an elevated temperature from a cumene hydroperoxide mixture comprising cumene, comprises the steps of: a) distilling an amount of cumene from the cumene hydroperoxide mixture until the cumene mass % is 0 to 7 mass % relative to the total mass of the cumene hydroperoxide mixture, b) reacting the cumene hydroperoxide mixture with an acid catalyst form to a second mixture comprising phenol, acetone and dicumyl peroxide in a first stage, and c) decomposing the second mixture in a second stage to produce phenol and acetone, wherein an amount of phenol approximately equal to the amount of distilled from the cumene hydroperoxide mixture is added to the cumene hydroperoxide mixture before the reacting step b). The amount of hydroxyacetone is reduced, thereby, improving the quality of commercial-grade phenol and the products made from the phenol.

  • Patent number: 7996516
Abstract: Systems and methods for configuration of devices within a network utilizing inherited configuration data are disclosed. Configuration data stored at a junction box in electronic communication with a first device is accessed. The configuration data includes a default zone of interest assignment for a first device. The zone of interest comprises a portion of a network. Devices within the zone of interest are identified. It is determined whether the first device is compatible with any of the identified devices. The first device is configured, in an automated manner, to interact with a set of compatible devices within the zone of interest.

  • Publication number: 20100193077
Abstract: A portable silo adapted for dispensing and metering flowable materials integrated into a shipping container is described. After shipping to a concrete pouring site or other mixing application, doors on one end of the container may be opened, leveling legs deployed, and the container righted to a vertical position, wherein the leveling legs are placed in contact with the ground, a pad or another supporting surface. Metering devices mounted on the legs are used to weigh the combination of the container, the silo and the flowable material. The silo may then be filled with a flowable material through a door in the container on the other end thereof from the doors utilized for accessing the leveling legs, or by a pneumatic filling tube attached thereto. A dust filter which may be disposed within the container during transit, may now be deployed on the outside of the container.

  • Patent number: 5283569
Abstract: A flood warning system including a stilling well having three vertically spaced apart float switches therein for detecting the level of flood waters. Upon the water level reaching and closing the lowest float switch, a telephone alarm dialer is actuated to transmit a first low stage flood warning message to a remote location. Upon the water level reaching and closing the second or middle level float switch, the lowest float switch is disabled and the upper float switch is enabled. Upon the water reaching and closing the upper float switch the telephone alarm dialer is actuated to transmit a high stage flood warning message to the remote location. As the water recedes, upon dropping below and opening the middle level float switch the lowest float switch is enabled and the upper float switch is disabled thereby actuating the telephone alarm dialer to transmit a second low stage flood warning message to the remote location. This second low stage flood warning message indicates that the flood has crested.

  • Patent number: 4246715
Abstract: An emergency warning traffic sign comprises a conventional stop sign which has been divided vertically in the middle into two sheet portions carrying portions of the message on one face of each of the sheet portions. The sheet portions are connected by a hinge such that a first of the portions may be mounted to a traffic signal post and the second sheet portion may be rotated between a first position in which the message is obscured to a second open message position. A locking bar is attached to the first sheet portion and is pivotally movable across the back of the sign and within its perimeter to lock the sign in both its open and closed positions. In a second embodiment of the invention, another sign carrying a different message is also divided vertically into a third and forth sheet portions and these sheet portions are hingedly connected to each other.
