Abstract: A coin sorter has a separator strip disposed outside of an exit area of a stationary plate in which a line of coins of mixed denominations are indexed against a spirally extending ridge in a single layer and single file. The strip has a series of incremental segments defined in a side facing the center of a resilient disc which enables the coins to be captured. An edge area of the strip is configured to immediately re-capture coins as they are released at the exit area and to hold the coins until they pass by a segment of the strip that is far enough away from the indexing line of the coins that they are no longer captured, but are freely released. The released coins then proceed outward along a specific path defined for a particular coin denomination.

Abstract: A coin or token sorting apparatus is disclosed. In this apparatus, a hopper within which coins are placed is provided with a floor, the floor also serving as a dispenser for spreading the coins out in generally across the floor. From one side of the floor the coins are provided to a plurality of V-shaped troughs being bisected longitudinally so as to create a coin path down each inner side of each trough. Coins are oriented in a single file as they move down each side of a respective trough. After being so oriented, the coins enter a region of a respective trough having a slot in a bottom thereof, with the coins riding along a narrow ridge of the slot. For each diameter of coin or token, a diverter is provided along the slot so that a coin to be sorted engages the diverter and is lifted off the ridge and directed through the slot. As such, larger coins are sorted first, with smaller coins moving unaffected past a diverter for a larger coin.

Abstract: A coin sorter wherein there area plurality of side-by-side V-shaped, elongated tracks. These tracks are on a slope and are fed from a common coin feeder and the tracks are terminated at lower ends by coin diverters varied in configuration to progressively divert, and thus sort coins in a descending order of diameter.

The steps involve receiving the coins on a disc having a resilient surface and imparting rotational movement to the coins by rotating the disc with a stationary guide plate having a contoured surface spaced slightly over the resilient surface of the disc. The guide plate includes a recess for guiding the coins on the disc into a single file of coins. A referencing portion of the contoured surface is used to guide one edge of the coins in the single file along a prescribed path. The coins of a selected denomination are then counted as they are moved along the prescribed path. Coins of different denominations are discharged at different locations around the periphery of the stationary guide plate, and, in response to the counting, the discharge of the coins is interrupted.
