Patent number: 9995568Abstract: A job site monitoring system includes a tower-mounted scanner that is situated to monitor all or substantially all of a particular construction site. The scanner is configured to provide data to a processor configured to determine the height of fill material deposited at a job site. The processor is adapted to communicate with a remote client who can review the data collected at the job site. The processor may also be configured to compare the live fill height data to predetermined parameters to determine whether an error condition exists. An alert may be issued upon detection of such an error to enable corrective action to be taken before construction continues at the site.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2016Date of Patent: June 12, 2018Inventor: Mark E. Sanders

Publication number: 20180135298Abstract: A method of reducing propagation of cracks in concrete includes placing at least one curved panel in an area into which concrete is to be poured such that a bottom surface of the at least one curved panel directly contacts a first surface of the area. The method further includes pouring the concrete onto the first surface of the area such that the concrete directly contacts a concave surface and a convex surface of the at least one curved panel. The concave surface and the convex surface project in a direction that is substantially perpendicular to the bottom surface. The method further includes ceasing to pour the concrete when substantially an entirety of the convex surface and substantially an entirety of the concave surface of the at least one curved panel are in direct contact with the concrete.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2017Publication date: May 17, 2018Inventors: Mark E. Sanders, Jeffrey L. Roberts

Patent number: 9915064Abstract: An apparatus for reducing propagation of cracks in concrete includes a curved panel. The curved panel includes a convex surface and a concave surface facing away from one another and separated by a thickness. Each of the convex and concave surfaces has a top edge, a bottom edge, a first end, and a second end. Each of the convex and concave surfaces is configured to be arranged in direct contact with the concrete. The curved panel further includes a top surface extending between the top edges of the convex and concave surfaces. The top surface is substantially planar and substantially perpendicular to the convex and concave surfaces. Patent number: 8485494Abstract: The concepts disclosed herein provide for a concrete mold that improves upon existing concrete molds known in the art. The hinged side-panel members that are locked to a hold-down frame allow for the mold to cure a concrete member, and then allow the concrete member to be removed without the need to break-down the frame surrounding the concrete member. During the pouring and ensuing curing process of the concrete member, the hinged side-panel members are secured to the hold-down frame and to each other in order to hold the concrete in the mold. Once the concrete is cured, the hinged side-panel members may be unlocked and opened quickly, allowing for expedient removal of the concrete member. After closing and re-locking the hinged side-panel members, the mold may be reused to cure another concrete member without the need to rebuild the frame around the mold.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 2011Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Inventor: Mark E. Sanders

Patent number: 7493736Abstract: A slab protector is provided in the form of a sheet of material configured to overlap an edge of a newly poured slab to protect that slab while an adjacent slab is poured and surface finished. The sheet of material extends along the entire length of the edge impacted by the adjacent pour and is configured to have an overhang portion that extends down over the exposed side of the slab. The sheet also includes a primary portion that overlays a significant portion of the surface of the poured slab. The slab protector sheet is preferably formed of a plastic material and includes an adhesive strip on its underside that removably and temporarily adheres the slab protector to the underlying concrete slab to resist dislodgement.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2002Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: Sanders CorporationInventor: Mark E. Patent number: 7278242Abstract: A dock pit for a dock leveler mechanism comprises a pre-cast concrete body including integrally formed side, rear panel and front panels, all forming a continuous perimeter open therethrough to receive the load leveler mechanism. Each side panel has a top edge and the rear panel has a rear edge offset below the of the side panel top edges, whereby a concrete slab poured around the body will abut the rear panel edge with the surface of the concrete slab substantially flush with the top edge of each side panel. The side panels define a recess along their length that is situated between the top edge of the side panel and the rear edge of the rear panel, whereby the concrete slab poured around the pre-cast body will integrate within the recesses on each said side panel. The dock slab can be poured using the pre-cast pit as a form.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2005Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Inventor: Mark E. Sanders

Patent number: 7201366Abstract: An electronic winch monitoring system for a winch having a fixed-ratio gearbox with input and output shafts, a winch drum connected to the output shaft, and an auxiliary brake connected to the output shaft activated by reducing the pressure in a brake release hydraulic circuit. The system comprises an input shaft speed sensor, an output shaft speed sensor, and an electronic control unit having a monitoring section and a brake control section. The monitoring section receives the speed signals, processes them to produce a calculated ratio of actual input to output shaft speeds, and produces a fault indication signal when the value of the difference between the calculated speed ratio and the fixed ratio exceeds a predetermined value. The brake control section, upon receiving the fault signal, reduces the hydraulic pressure in the brake circuit using a nonlinear pressure-time profile to engage the auxiliary brake and stop the winch drum.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2006Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: Paccar Inc.Inventors: Mark E. Sanders, David E. Johnson

Patent number: 6314693Abstract: A building foundation is formed by a plurality of pre-cast concrete elements. Each of the pre-cast elements has a length corresponding to the length of a corresponding side or leg of the foundation perimeter. The foundation includes a plurality of pre-cast concrete footing pads that are dispersed along the perimeter and specifically at the corners of the foundation. The pre-cast foundation elements rest on the footing pads and are contiguously arranged to complete the foundation. A bonding agent can be introduced into the joints between adjacent foundation elements to seal the joint. Alternatively, or in addition, mechanical fasteners can be used to interconnect adjacent panels. Certain ones of the pre-cast foundation elements define an integral brick ledge, with varying configurations to ensure continuity of the brick ledge around the corners of the foundation. In a method of the invention, a trench around the perimeter is dug and the pre-cast concrete elements laid in place with a crane.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2000Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Sanders Pre-Cast Concrete Systems.Inventor: Mark E.
