  • Patent number: 7255852
Abstract: Precipitated silica comprising porous silica particles having a cumulative surface area for all pores having diameters greater than 500 ? of less than 8 m2/g, as measured by mercury intrusion, and a percentage cetylpyridinium chloride (% CPC) Compatibility of greater than about 55%. The precipitated silica product is especially well-adapted for use in dentifrices containing cetylpyridinium chloride, which do not attach to the low surface area silica product in a meaningful level and thus remain available for antimicrobial action. Processes for making the silica product are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7166271
Abstract: Disclosed is a composite material comprising a boehmite substrate coated with a precipitated silica, the composite having a BET specific surface area of from 1 m2/g to 50 m2/g, such that the composite material has a % silica coating parameter value of about 5% to about 50%. Also disclosed is a dentifrice comprising this composite material. When included in a dentifrice composition, the composite material not only provides excellent abrasive and cleaning performance but also has compatibility with other ingredients used in dentifrice formulations, such as fluoride, flavors and cationic species.

  • Patent number: 6946119
Abstract: Precipitated silica product having low surface area and enhanced flavor compatibility. The precipitated silica product is especially well-adapted for use in dentifrices containing cetylpyridinium chloride, which do not attach to the low surface area silica product in a meaningful level and thus remain available for antimicrobial action. Processes for making the low surface area silica product are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6313224
Abstract: Curable coating compositions comprising either a liquid or particulate curable film-forming resinous material, a flow control agent which is a copolymer and optionally a carrier for the liquid resinous material. The copolymer is from at least one non-amino, non-hydroxyl and non-acid functional alkyl acrylate or methacrylate containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, and functional monomer of either (i) amino functional acrylates and methacrylates in an effective amount to give the copolymer an amine value in the range from 2 to 70, or (ii) acid functional acrylate and methacrylate in an effective amount to give the copolymer an acid value in the range of from 10 to 30. Additionally, with either functional monomer (i) or (ii) another functional comonomer (iii) can be present in the copolymer which is hydroxyalkyl acrylate and/or hydroxyalkyl methacrylate and/or caprolactone polyol monomer.

  • Patent number: 6251999
Abstract: A catalytic tin carboxylate adduct, which is useful as a catalyst in epoxy-acid coating compositions, is the reaction product of (A) a mono-, di-, or poly-carboxylic acid functional compound and (B) an organotin compound containing one to three aryl groups and at least one halogen or hydroxyl group attached to the tin atom. There is also provided an epoxy-acid coating composition, which incorporates this catalytic tin carboxylate adduct. The epoxy-acid coating composition is advantageous as an automotive topcoat, particularly as a clear coat composition because it exhibits good appearance, durability, stability and generates no, or extremely low levels of benzene during the curing process.

  • Patent number: 6074474
Abstract: A multi-component pigment slurry which comprises at least 50% solids. The slurry is formulated to be admixed into paint and coating compositions to promote TiO.sub.2 extension. The slurry includes a structured pigment, a coarse particle size pigment, and a fine particle size pigment. The structured pigment comprises about 20% to about 55% of the slurry by dry weight and has a median particle size diameter of about 0.7.mu. to about 6.0.mu.. The coarse particle size pigment preferably comprises about 20% to about 60% by weight of the slurry and has a median particle size diameter of about 3.0.mu. to about 10.0.mu.. The fine particle size pigment preferably comprises up to about 50% by dry weight of the slurry and has a median particle size diameter of about 0.2.mu. to about 1.0.mu..
